The journal publishes papers reporting work focused on a variety of subjects all related to plant biology. Topics include but are not limited to genetics, biochemistry, development, cell, biotic stress, abiotic stress, genomics, phenomics, bioinformatics, physiology, molecular biology, and evolution. A collaborative journal launched by ASPB [2], the Society for Experimental Biology [3], and John Wiley & Sons [4], Plant Direct publishes papers submitted directly to the journal as well as those referred from a select group of the societies’ journals. HistoryPlant Direct published its first issue published in 2017. According to an article published in volume 1, issue 1 [5] it is a society journal that focuses on sound science, and it will "judge manuscripts based on whether the experiments and analysis are performed to an acceptable technical standard and described in adequate detail in standard English, how well the conclusions are supported by the data, and whether the manuscript and contents meet all ethical and research integrity standards."
