Pooja O. Murada is a development communications practitioner based in Delhi. Born to a family of professionals with mother a teacher and father a Govt. of India employee, Murada along with her one sibling, her elder sister, received her school education from Delhi. She has a Master's degree in Mass Communications from Guru Jambeshwar University, Hisar and Bachelor's in English honors from Delhi University, and a bridge marketing program from Tuck School of Business. She carries over 20 years of work experience in brand management, marketing communications and communications for development. Murada's stint in the development sector started with the project at TRIFED, and then joined S M Sehgal Foundation to work on the cause of rural development and advocate issues that affect rural population. She has contributed articles, papers, and also co-authored a book titled Community Radio In India, published by Aakar Books, and supported by UNESCO to share the crucial need of information dissemination at the last mile and use of community media to achieve positive results.

Career

In her experience with the development sector, her work has addressed the issues of information divide at the grassroots in rural India. As director, Communications with S M Sehgal Foundation, she spearheads the practice of a variety of media and ICT channels including community media like street theatre, wall paintings, community papers, and broadcast medium like the community radio Alfaz-e-Mewat. She is a founding member and representative of Alfaz-e-Mewat^[1], which was started in 2012 in the backward and media dark area of Nagina Block in district of Nuh (Mewat), Haryana state in India.

Achievements

Murada has served as a governing board member of Community Radio Association of India for two years (2016-18), and currently nominated as an advisor to the association. She also teaches a new media course for the graduate/post graduate students at YMCA, Delhi. She has published and has been quoted by a number of articles^[2] on themes of rural development^[3]^[4], community radio^[5]^[6]^[7]^[8]^[9]^[10]^[11]^[12], gender^[13], corporate social responsibility^[14]^[15] and contributed papers in journals, including Women's Voices: Engaging the Excluded (Sage 2014), and has co-authored a book on community radio, titled 'Community Radio in India' with Dr. R Sreedher, radio expert, published by Aakar with support from UNESCO New Delhi Cluster Office^[16]^[17]^[18]^[19].

As a chairperson of the gender committee and internal complaints committee at S M Sehgal Foundation (2017-19), she conducts training programs to build capacity on gender issues and policies around sexual harassment at workplace.
