If significant coverage in multiple reliable sources which are independent of the subject exists as required by the general notability guideline, then I'd recommend that you add them to the article and resubmit. If it doesn't exist, then the topic is likely not considered notable for Wikipedia. Please don't get discouraged by this; creating a new article that complies with Wikipedia's policies is a very hard thing to do. Cheers and happy editing! Porter Ray Sullivan (born May 4, 1988), known simply as Porter Ray, is an American rapper from Seattle, Washington. After being discovered by Shabazz Palaces' Ishmael Butler, in 2014, he was signed to Sub Pop. He is a member of the Black Constellation collective. In 2017, Porter Ray released his debut album, Watercolor.[1]

Early Life

Porter Ray was born in Seattle, Washington, and brought up in Seattle's Central District. His father, Scott Sullivan, was an attorney, and his mother, Dr. Debra Sullivan (née Porter), is a professor who founded a college, the Praxis Institute for Early Childhood Education, and published the book Cultivating the Genius of Black Children. He often credits his mother's influence with turning him into an avid reader, which bolstered his musical abilities. He was the oldest of his siblings, Aaron and Siobhan.[1][2][3]

He attended O'Dea High School, and later Cleveland High School, but dropped out in 2005 before graduating after his father, Scott, lost his five-year battle with multiple sclerosis. Four years after his father's death, Porter Ray's younger brother Aaron was shot and killed, at the age of 18, in Seattle's Leschi neighborhood.[1]

Career

With an early affinity for music, hip hop in particular, and rocked by tragedies in his personal life, Porter Ray began focusing on music.

Connected by a mutual friend, he attracted the attention of former Roc-a-Fella Director of Marketing, Geoff Gillis, who then began managing him. Under Gillis' guidance, he put together his first project, BLK GLD--a jazzy, sample-based production--in 2013. Following the release of Porter Ray's GLD EP trio, he was signed to Sub Pop, the Seattle record label best known for signing Nirvana. He was handpicked by Ishmael Butler, of Digable Planets and Shabazz Palaces fame, who was Sub Pop's new A&R man, in 2014.[1]

On March 10, 2017, Porter Ray released his debut album, Watercolor, through Sub Pop. The project included production from B-Roc, Dez Anthony, Kmtk and Tele Fresco, and features from Seattle artists.[4][5]

Personal Life

Just days after the release of his first album through Sub Pop, in March 2017, Porter Ray lost the mother of the eldest of his two children when she was killed in a car crash. She'd been his best friend since high school.[6]
