She completed her father’s dream to play for Indian national team. She has now become 1st women cricketer from Rajasthan to play for Indian national team. She was interested in cricket and badminton from childhood. Then she selected cricket as a career to play for nation. Her father also helped her very much in every situation in her life. He trained her and became his coach and mentor. She was born in Rajasthan then they went to Delhi because of father’s transfer and then came to Rajasthan again. She started practice at the age of 7. She first practiced at Surana academy for 5-6 months. She took coaching under the coach Rajkumar Sharma. [1][2] About Family:-Priya’s father is Surendra Punia who is a head clerk in Indian Survey Department of Jaipur. She has a brother Rahul Punia. She was born in Hindu family and Jat by caste.[3][2] Early life:-She was born in Rajasthan. She completed schooling there and she graduated from the Jesus and Mary college of Delhi. They were living in Delhi but in 2016 her father got transfer from Delhi to Jaipur. So they also transferred. This shift was not easy for her because when they shifted jaundice struck her almost immediately. After recovering from this her thumb was fractured. So she had to wait for some time. Since childhood she was interested in badminton and cricket. She finally chose cricket as a career. Her father had a dream to play cricket for India but he could not complete it. So he tried to help Priya. He is coach and mentor of Priya. Her father sold his properties and took loans from the bank to buy 1.5 bigha plot for rs.22 lakhs in 2010 on the outskirts of Jaipur to build sports complex but when she showed interest in cricket he decided to build ground and net. He contacted grounds man to make a pitch but he wanted 1 lakh rupees. So he decided to build pitch himself and made it. He spends rs.15, 000 monthly for its upkeep. This type of father’s hardwork made she to get the call from the Indian team. She also works very hard and practicing to be fit and ready.[4][5][6][7][8] Career:-She started playing cricket from her childhood when she was only 7 years old. She then faced many problems in going to academy because she has to listen a lot for being a girl. But she managed it and then took training from the coach Rajkumar Sharma from 2008 to 2015 who is also a coach of Indian team captain Virat Kohli. Her father, Virat Kohli and Harmanpreet Kaur are her role models. She made her t20I debut against Hyderabad for Delhi women’s cricket team in 2016. Then she played for Delhi women’s cricket team in the senior women’s one-day championship which was organized in Bangalore. She scored 407 runs in 8 matches at the average of 50 and proved her talent. So she got selected for Indian green women team. She has also played for India A women and India women blue and now she will play for Indian women’s team. She plays role of an all-rounder in the team. She is a right handed bats-woman and bowling style is right-arm medium. She expected her maiden call in year 2015 when she had a very great season which included her 95 for North against the West zone. She was the highest run scorer for India A women against the visiting team New Zealand by scoring 59 from 42. She bats at no.3. She was noticed for her composure and confidence. She also expected to get a chance in ODI but she did not get but now she is focusing on the chance she has got in T20Is against New Zealand.[9][10] Records:-Now she has become the 1st player from Rajasthan to play for Indian women’s team. Priya who also plays for Delhi women's team, has been among the leading run-scorers in the last two seasons in the domestic circuit.
