I do not understand why there is a need for language such as "one incident of an idiot".

The claim that incidents often go unreported was also backed by a reference showing the CBC in Canada refused to report on this incident.

Furthermore, this is not original research since every single claim in this is found in the sources I referenced.

True, this includes only one incident currently. There are many more, and I am sure once we get this published more people will contribute and add more incidents. I can add a few more, but it is impossible to add all incidents at once before the first publish.

Please be specific which claim is original research, or which ones are not backed by a source, since as I stated - everything in here is from the sources referenced IMHO. Try to be specific to help me fix what ever is not clearly referenced.Spetel (talk) 21:15, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

  • The claim that "incidents often go unreported" is not backed by the first source as after saying CBC refused to cover they then listed the local and international coverage. A claim of "often" would need to have multiple incidences being generally unreported. Based on the source a more accurate statement would be "incidents sometimes go unreported by some main media outlets". As for "everything in here is from the sources referenced" they do mention murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, stalking or vandalism. KylieTastic (talk) 21:35, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Ok, I just added 5 more incidents to support this page and all got deleted probably due to multiple edits on the page by other authors.

I will re-add them and submit again, thank you for your comments.Spetel (talk) 21:47, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Edited, added more reliable references. References are all independent local or international news agencies, without specific interest in the topic. Please advise if there is any specific reference or claim that is problematic. Spetel (talk) 17:57, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi there,

All sources are independent local news agencies. I removed a reference to a site with questionable bias and replaced it with several notable news agencies.

The point I am making of some major news outlets deliberately not reporting or under reporting incidents is specifically hard to make, since you can't show reference for something that doesn't exist. So, instead I put references to the story in other outlets and mention it was not reported on CBC, or in one case - was reported 7 days later, with a short worded piece with no pictures and no links to the video.

I hope that makes sense, if not - please advise how should I proceed with this.

Again, if this is rejected, please be helpful if you can pointing out which sources exactly do not meet the standard, or which claims exactly were not backed by enough references. Thanks! Spetel (talk) 18:03, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

Updated sources, removed bias language, and added general motives behind the attacks.

Thanks for all the feedback - hope this makes the cut. Again, if there are more issues please try to be specific so that I can address them. Spetel (talk) 20:47, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

Pro-abortion violence is violence committed against individuals and organizations that either protest unrestricted abortion rights or for refusing demands to have an abortion. Incidents of violence have included destruction of property, in the form of vandalism; crimes against people, including kidnapping, stalking, assault, attempted murder, and murder; and crimes affecting both people and property.

Motives behind the attacks

Motives for the violence vary in terms of the goals the attacker wish to achieve, the target of the attack and the manner of attack.

Some attacks are motivated by ending an unwanted pregnancy, either as a result of rape or the refusal of the pregnant woman to undergo an abortion. In some instances the rapist would be the instigator, while in other cases family members of the rape victim act after their demands for an abortion were not met.[1]. Often in these types of attacks, the motivation is to induce an abortion using violence, which will mostly manifest in repeated attacks towards the abdomen of the pregnant woman, although in some cases the violence surpassed that and went as far as killing the pregnant woman[2]

Other attacks are more politically motivated, with less tolerant pro-choice or pro-abortion activists resulting to violence against pro-life or anti-abortion activists. These attacks manifest either as vandalism, where the attackers would vandalize the property or signs used during a pro-life protest[3], or as violence against the pro-life activists themselves, with incidents including kicking, pulling or pushing.

Media under reporting criticism

Incidents sometimes go under-reported by some main stream media outlets. As shown in the attack that took place in Toronto 2018, the CBC (Canadian state news broadcaster, considered a major news outlet in Canada) was criticized for delaying report of the incident, while finally covering it with a short written piece never including the viral video of the attack - 7 days after it took place[1], while it got national[2]

[3][4][5][6][10] and international [11][7][8][9][10][11]

[12] coverage. Another similar attack in Ryerson University was not covered by the CBC at all (See below, Gabby Skwarko, Ryerson, 2018).

Incidents

Unknown, Kingston, 2015

An anti-abortion protest in downtown Kingston turned sour after a man threw white paint at some of the protesters’ signs. At 1:13 p.m., the man who threw white paint was arrested for mischief by Kingston Police.[13]

Carlton C.J. Bryan, Connecticut, 2015

Carlton of hiring a hit man to kill his pregnant girlfriend after she refused to have an abortion. He was sentenced to 80 years in prison. Prosecutors said Bryan hired his friend Matthew Allen Hall-Davis to kill 21-year-old Shamari Jenkins, who was about four-months pregnant when she was fatally shot in 2013 in Hartford as she was driving a car with Bryan in the front passenger's seat. The fetus didn't survive. The shooter fired through the back windshield.[14]

Robert Joseph Caylad, Dallas, 2015

In 2015 this incident of a young girl who was assaulted by family members to induce an abortion after she was raped by a relative. A 14-year-old girl -- who was later beaten by family members to induce an abortion -- was awakened and raped by a relative in 2012, according to police documents.[15]

Jordan Hunt, Toronto, 2018

In 2018 a pro-life protester Marie-Claire Bissonnette was engaging in civil debate with pro-abortion (AKA pro-choice) Jordan Hunt after he was vandalizing signs and clothes of the pro-life protesters. Marie then recorded the exchange on her phone which shows Jordan attacking her with a round-house kick, followed by an apology that he only meant to kick her phone, thus admitting to act with intention to vandalize her property.[16][17]

Gabby Skwarko, Toronto, 2018

An anti abortion activist was attacked in Ryerson university, the incident was caught on camera and went viral on YouTube. Gabby Skwarko is seen vandalizing the protesters signs, then grabbing an anti-abortion protester by her backpack and shoving her. Katie Somers claims she was the woman who was assaulted and said she sustained bruising on her leg.[18]. This story got a national and international media attention, but some major Canadian news outlets, most notably the CBC, did not report on it.
