Public Service Entrance Exam is an exam administered by the Public Service Commission of Canada that is used to fulfill a requirement for selected public servant positions in Canada.[1] The exam is used as a part of post-secondary recruitment. The exam is organized in two stages.[2] In the first stage, examinees are tested in an unsupervised environment. They answer questions online using a computer with Internet access at their location. Having passed the first stage, examinees are then tested under supervision at a test center. There are test centers inside and outside of Canada. In both stages, the test consists of two parts: reasoning and judgment. The reasoning part of the supervised test consists of 30 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 90 minutes. The questions are numerical and analytical. The judgment part of the test consists of 40 multiple-choice questions on work-related situations to be answered in 60 minutes.[3] Examinees are provided with a score for each of the two parts of the test. The test is passed if the score for the reasoning part is at or above the 10% percentile of the scores of the previous test takers, and the score for the judgment part is at or above the 35% percentile of the scores. This means that the score for the reasoning part is within the top 90% of the scores, and for the judgment part it is within the top 65% of the scores. For some positions, the passing requirements could be as high as the 50% percentile. The exam can be taken only once per year.[4] See also
