Pyrrhia is one of the continents in the book series Wings of Fire written by Tui. T Sutherland. This world is inhabited by 7 tribes of dragons with each type having its own territory within it. These tribes are constantly at war to attempt to increase their land. According to maps created by the Nightwings centuries ago, Pyrrhia is in the shape of a dragon, with the Icewing Kingdom forming the head, and the islands in the Seawing territory forming a tail. Pyrrhia has been in existence for almost 3000 years.

Inhabitants

Pyrrhia is home to to seven tribes of dragons. The tribes include Sandwings, Mudwings, Seawings, Icewings, Skywings, Rainwings, and Nightwings.

Humans, who are known as scavengers, are eaten, or become pets for the dragons, and are occasionally pitted against one another for sport. Humans were originally the dominant species just like in our world, but then in what as known as the scorching, the dragons attacked the humans destroying their civilization and killing the majority of their population. The remaining humans went into hiding and scavenged to survive. Once the humans were gone, the dragons set up seven kingdoms based on the similarities in culture and preferred climate, and appointed queens to lead them.

Geography

Modern Pyrrhia is divided into six kingdoms and Jade Mountain. Each kingdom is home to one of the tribes of dragons with Nightwings being the only ones without an independent kingdom after theirs was destroyed.

Sky Kingdom

The Sky kingdom is the largest kingdom, mostly because of their former queen Scarlet who loved conquering. It stretches from the tip of the continent's wing to the Diamond Spray river to the south and including Claws of the Cloud Mountain where the main characters from the first arc lived for the beginning of their lives. The Sky kingdom includes many forests and most of the mountains in Pyrrhia.

Kingdom of the Sea

The Kingdom of the Sea, home to the Seawings is mostly underwater with the exception of the small islands that are used to house visitors to the kingdom from other tribes who lack the ability to breathe underwater. The Seawings live alongside all of the sea creatures that live in their kingdom.[1]

Ice Kingdom

The Ice Kingdom is the farthest north of all the kingdoms and it is covered in snow all year round. This makes it unsuitable for any of the other tribes to live there. If that is not enough to protect the IceWings, they have an animus spell on a wall of ice at their southern border, preventing any dragon that is not an Icewing from crossing through.[2]

Kingdom of Sand

The Kingdom of Sand is a very desolate place, not only because it mainly consists of dessert but also because of the major damage the Sandwing Succession war caused to it. All of the major cities are built near oases. It makes up the stomach of the dragon on the map.

Mud Kingdom

The Mud Kingdom is a peaceful kingdom. It is filled with small villages placed by one of the many rivers that go to the Diamond Spray Delta. Villages are sometimes made up of only one extended family because Mudwings have lots of dragonets that stay with their parents for life.[3]

Rainforest Kingdom

The Rainforest Kingdom is completely under the cover of trees, with most of the buildings being made in the branches. This was originally home for only the Nightwings, but under Queen Glory’s rule the Nightwings have started living there as well. The animus enchanted  entrance to the Nightwings old home is inside the Rainforest Kingdom which is one of the reasons why they moved in to the rainforest once their home was destroyed.[4] The Rainforest Kingdom’s main source of food is fruit that is harvested off the trees.[5]

Jade Mountain

The last major area of Pyrrhia is Jade Mountain, one of the largest mountains on the continent. It is located between the Kingdom of Sand and the Rainforest Kingdom. Jade Mountain has many rooms hollowed out in it forming a large community within the rock. After the events of the fifth book, it is turned into a school for dragons from all the tribes, making it the only truly neutral area in all of Pyrrhia.[6]
