Early LifeBorn and raised in British Columbia, Canada, Racelle Kooy is of Secwepemc, St’atl’imc, and Dutch ancestry. She is a member of the Samahquam First Nation, with family ties to Stswecem’c Xgat’tem.[3] EducationFrom 1994 to 1998, Racelle Kooy completed a Bachelor of Business Administration within the Tourism Management Program at the Université du Québec à Montréal. During this time, Kooy also completed a school year at a Masters in Management Program through a French exchange opportunity. Kooy was a Master’s degree candidate in Resource and Environmental Management at Simon Fraser University from 2003 to 2007 and was the recipient of the 2004 Simon Fraser University Aboriginal Student Leader Award. In addition, Kooy has experience with the International Association of Business Communicators. CareerRacelle Kooy began her professional career in Ottawa, Ontario as the Communications Coordinator and Project Manager of the 1999 Aboriginal Peoples Television Network inaugural live broadcast, held in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Kooy then transitioned from a Projects Manager role for Aboriginal Tourism Canada to the Marketing Director of the Aboriginal Tourism Association of British Columbia in West Vancouver.[4] In 2012, Kooy became the Director of Communications at the First Nations University of Canada in Regina, Saskatchewan.[5] During her time in Saskatchewan, Kooy was also a contributor to Pour faire un monde for Société Radio Canada.[6] Kooy was a member of the 2014 North American Indigenous Games Board of Directors and was the host of the live stream coverage of the opening ceremonies for Radio Canada.[7] Since 2015, Kooy has acted as a consultant across Canada for the facilitation of First Nations community outreach, government relations, and communications.
