History

RADII was founded in 2017 by Brian A. Wong, VP of Global Initiatives at Alibaba[1]. RADII is not owned by Alibaba, and claims to operate with editorial independence. Wong recognized a need for a more diverse and comprehensive portrayal of China in mainstream western media.

“There remains a significant lack of mutual understanding between China and the West. There needs to be stronger voices to represent a more informed and updated view of what China really is today.”[2]

RADII’s headquarters is in Hong Kong with staff based throughout China and the US. The company sources stories from content creators worldwide.

Content

RADII’s main content spans three categories; Culture (music, film, tv, art, history), Innovation (tech, gaming, internet culture, science), and Life (wellness, food, sports, environment). Coverage ranges from in-depth feature reporting to short form news.

RADII has three bi-weekly podcasts: Digitally China discusses new technology, hosted by Tom Xiong and Eva Xiao. Wǒ Men Podcast is a discussion about general life in China from a woman’s perspective, hosted by Yajun Zhang and Jingjing Zhang. In B-Side China,Josh Feola explores China’s underground music scene.

Notable Mentions

RADII’s original reporting has been recognized by the BBC, Bloomberg[3], VOX and the Atlantic. RADII staff have made expert appearances on international television network CGTN.
