Rafael Agustín is a writer on the award-winning The CW show,

Jane the Virgin [1]. He is a 2016 Sundance Fellow [2] for his TV

family comedy, ILLEGAL, a family sitcom based on his life as a former

undocumented student.[3]

Education

Agustin attended Mt. San Antonio College and then transferred to UCLA where he received his BA and MA from UCLA’s School of Theater, Film & Television. Career

Agustín co-created and co-starred in the national touring, award-winning autobiographical comedy,

N*GGER WETB*CK CH*NK, which received acclaim from the

LA Times, New York Times, Denver Post and won awards for its

advancement of social justice in the arts.[4]

Besides being a writer on JANE THE VIRGIN, Rafael Agustín currently serves as Executive Director of the Latino

Film Institute [5] , where he oversees both the Youth Cinema Project

and LALIFF (Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival).

Earlier in 2018, the LA Weekly[6] named Agustín one of the fifty

most essential people in Los Angeles.

Recognitions

Agustin has been named[7] 2015 Alumnus of the Year at Mt. San Antonio College [8], and has been given the LA Times' Latinos de Hoy [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ij78vbmqzS4 Emerging Leader Award].
