Her debut book, a collection of poetry and prose entitled A Series of Bad Self-Portraits, was published in 2018. The book contains drawings, drawn by Worku herself to aid in conveying images of each poem. BiographyWorku was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She immigrated to Kenya with her parents when she was seven years old. At the age of thirteen she started experiencing anxiety, unable to express how she felt Worku turned to writing and photography. Her poetry focused on what it meant to battle with mental illness in an African country. She also explored what it meant to be a woman in the culture she grew up in. She attended St. Christopher's Secondary School in Nairobi, Kenya then went on to go to Sandford International School in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Worku is now attending St. John's college. Studying the Liberal Arts and Sciences. CareerWorku began posting her poems and photographs on her personal blog in 2016. After receiving public attention, Worku went on to sign with Libros Agency. She released the first edition of A Series of Bad Self-Portraits in 2017. In 2018, Worku and Libros announced their plan to publish the second edition of A Series of Bad Self-Portraits. Worku has been recognized by poets such as Clementine Von Radics and other notable poets. Worku's photography has received international attention, heading an exhibition in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2017. Both her written work and photography explore womanhood and mental illness. Worku's work is known for the vulnerability presented, discussing topics that are considered to a taboo in Africa. Common themes that are explored throughout her photography and poetry include femininity, abuse, love, pain and mental illness. Works
