Early Life and Education

Lanning was born in Tisdale, SK on July 29, 1978. As she was growing up, her family moved frequently until finally settling in Weyburn, SK in 1988. Her early years were a health struggle as Lanning was sick with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis.

From the time she was a young child, Regan had a great interest in art. Through-out high school, Regan took art classes from Eltje Degenhart,[1] a Holland born artist who taught at the Weyburn Comprehensive School[https://www.secpsd.ca/school/wcs/Pages/default.aspx [2]] for 27 years. After Regan graduated from the Weyburn Comprehensive School in 1996, Lanning travelled to Davao City, Philippines where she was an exchange student through the Rotary Youth Exchange Program. Her time there, influenced her world view and her art practice.

After the exchange, Lanning attended her first year of University through distance learning from Weyburn. In 1998, she made her way to the University of Regina, starting her BFA in painting. Unfortunately, due to health issues, Regan withdrew from the University in 2000.

In 2001, Lanning moved to Saskatoon, SK to be closer to her Grandmother, Norrie, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer and passed away in 2002.

lanning moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 2003, and was married in 2004, in Bethel, Ohio.
