Early LifeRichie was born in West Mifflin, PA, a suburb of Pittsburgh, to Cassandra and Richard Goods. His mother was a gospel/musical theater singer and pianist and began teaching Richie piano at age four. Gospel music was and still is an influence present in Goods' style. Richie's musical gifts became readily apparent and he quickly became a student of the drums, saxophone, guitar, bass guitar and eventually the upright bass. He attended the Pittsburgh High School for Creative and Performing Arts where he started his first band, Yield, with several classmates. It was there that his talent was nurtured by his teachers and where he was introduced to jazz. Too young to be admitted to local jazz venues, Richie's mother would take him to various jazz clubs in Pittsburgh so he could watch bands perform. One teacher in particular, noted jazz drummer, Roger Humphries, often allowed Richie to sit in with his band even as a student. When Richie focused on the bass guitar and decided to learn the upright bass, local musician, Dwayne Dolphin became his teacher. Goods continued his education at Berklee College of Music in Boston, from 1987 to 1991, where he majored in Music Performance. While there he played with various bands including Walter Beasley. CareerAfter college, Goods moved to New York City to begin his professional career. There he studied with jazz artists Ray Brown and Ron Carter. His first break came from his cousin, saxophonist Walter Beasleyand Brian McKnight whom he toured with in 1993. Goods considers veteran pianist Mulgrew Mlller the most important musical influence in his life. He toured with Miller for 9 years, beginning in 1993 and recorded on three of his albums. (With Our Own Eyes, Mulgrew Miller,1994; Getting to Know You, Mulgrew Miller,1995; The Sequel, Mulgrew Miller and Wingspan, 2002;). On Miller's death in 2013, Richie said "He was the person I aspire to be. I would always refer to him as my spiritual guru. He was the most non-selfish, spiritual, kind, thoughtful, non-judgmental, encouraging person. There are really no words that can express the gratitude I have for Mulgrew." [1]Richie's musical style began to evolve as he incorporated his early roots in rock, funk and gospel with his straight ahead jazz styling. Richie's stint with Miller brought him to the attention of many in the jazz world and he became a sought after sideman, playing or recording with a host of jazz greats. He went on to tour and record with guitarist Russell Malone, saxophonist, Vincent Herring and The Manhattan Transfer and [https://www.bandsintown.com/en/a/87346-the-headhunters The Headhunters], among others, while intermittently recording and performing with Common, Alicia Keys on her Grammy Award album Songs in A Minor and Whitney Houston. In 2000, Richie appeared on the VH1 TV special, Men Strike Back[2], accompanying Christina Aguilera. A fan of jazz fusion, and Herbie Hancock in particular, Richie started his own band, Nuclear Fusion in 1997. Richie Goods & Nuclear Fusion, featuring Mike Clark (The Headhunters) on drums, Helen Sung on keyboards and Jeff Lockhart on guitar, released their first album in 2009 -"Richie Goods & Nuclear Fusion-Live at the Zinc Bar[3]". The group played various US venues and toured Europe in 2011. In 2012, Richie joined Grammy Award winning trumpeter Chris Botti's band and toured with him for five years. In 2015, Richie Goods & Nuclear Fusion released "Three Rivers"[1], a homage to his hometown, Pittsburgh, with Ben Butler on guitar, Andy Ezrin on keyboards and Billy Kilson on drums and featuring Chris Botti on the song "Four Kings". Richie played electric and upright bass and composed 10 songs on "Three Rivers" in addition to arranging and producing this recording. In 2017, Richie formed a new band, The Goods Project, which included more acoustic instrumentation. Band members include: John Roberts ('Lil John Roberts)-drums, Tariqh Akoni & Tom Guarna - guitar, Shedrick Mitchell & Matt Rodhe - organ/keyboard. Richie has his own production company, Richman Music, Inc. He produced both of his recordings with Nuclear Fusion.
