Scott Rickly "Rick" Christian (born December 22, 1953){{cn}} is an American literary agent and author. He founded the Alive Literary Agency' and served as its CEO from 1989 to 2019, culminating in the internal sale of the company to long-time agents.[1] [2] Books represented by Alive sold 250+ million copies, with 15 #1 New York Times bestsellers and numerous film and television adaptations.[3] Christian is also a published author and executive film producer.[4] [5]

Early life and education

Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, Christian grew up in San Diego, California, the middle child of three.[6]

He graduated from Stanford University in 1977 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications.[6] Christian also attended Capernwray Bible School in England and pursued graduate work at University of Southern California’s former branch campus in Idyllwild, California, though he did not complete his MFA degree.[6] Following his education, Christian was a newspaper reporter and columnist in California.[6] He later served as associate editor for Campus Life magazine and executive editor of The Saturday Evening Post, before working in publishing and film development.[7]

Career

Christian wrote Alive, The One-Year Devotions for Students (c 1983-2009/Tyndale House Publishers),[8] The Woodland Hills Tragedy (c 1985/Crossway Books),[9] A Gift of Life (c 1986/Here’s Life Publishers),[10] and Silent Night (c 1990/Tyndale House Publishers), a collaboration with Sue Thomas adapted for a TV series Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye.[11] [12]

Christian launched Alive in 1989 in Los Angeles, California.[13] He moved his family and company to Colorado Springs, CO in 1991. In 2014, Alive celebrated its 25th anniversary with a rebranding.[14] [15]

Alive has represented such properties as Tim LaHaye’s and Jerry B. Personal life

Christian married Debra Ardan Christian on July 20, 2002.[64] They have a blended family of seven grown children, and both are active with non-profit organizations.[65]
