I am currently taking the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand. I am an Environmental advocate and I plan to change the way humans deal with the environment. It is my dream to be part of DENR or to be an Environmental Scientist and Biologist, at least. I wanted to study at UPLB and take up Environmental courses or Biology courses.As an environmentalist here in our school. I am really concerned and worried about our big impact on the destruction of our planet Earth. Starting with the Cafeteria System. I highly dodge their way of supplying plastic utensils, styrofoam packaging and plastic cups and straws for their costumers. Do they know that plastics are banned? I rarely buy from the school's cafeteria because I do not tolerate such packaging, even with the chips and candies they are selling, they are totally packaged in plastics. I believe this system will change. I hope the administrators will ban the use of plastics inside the campus, starting with the cafeteria. We already have metal spoons and reusable plates? Why do they need to supply us plastic utensils and styrofoam? Another thing, with the plastic bottles. Do people know that THE WORLD IS DROWNING IN PLASTIC?!Do people know THAT PLASTICS ARE NOT BIODEGRADABLE AND WILL STAY IN THIS WORLD FOREVER?! DO WE WANT OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO SWIM IN PLASTICS?! Think of this, what if every student here in San Lorenzo School buys bottled water such as the most common brand "Nature Spring". There are almost 600 students in this school, meaning there will be 600 plastic bottles consumed every day. Yes, those plastic bottles may be recycled, I know that we have a separate bin for plastic bottles but are we really sure that all these bottles are going to be recycled? No, I bet not and besides just think that plastics are going to stay in this world forever no matter how perfect we recycle and reuse those plastics, in the end, they are all going nowhere but here in this world. FOREVER. THE SOLUTION IS TO REFUSE EVERY SINGLE USE PLASTICS. Students studying in this school, I believe they have enough money to buy their own reusable water bottles, and besides, they have nothing to worry when they already consumed their water since the school provides refilling stations. I also wish to ban the chips inside the cafeteria. Regarding the "plastic labo" they're using for the Bread rolls, Potato Rolls, and French fries, if the students wanted to buy the rolls and fries, I wish they can just bring their own containers so that no plastic is going to be consumed. I also wish that the cafeteria will provide healthier food, more fruits, and vegetables. Even I, an aware environmentalist, I'm still in the process of switching from plastic-full to plastic-free lifestyle, most of the time I fail to refuse plastics because we all know that in every aspect of our life, plastics are involved especially in eating because most of the food are packaged in plastics. I don't wanna look like a hypocrite, Yes I am saying these things so students will be aware of this environmental issue but I am not saying that I can perfectly live a plastic-free life, I am still searching for different alternatives, just like whenever I buy milk tea, I bring my reusable metal straw as a substitute to the traditional plastic straw and I also have a bamboo toothbrush in substitute to the plastic toothbrush. WE DON'T NEED A HANDFUL OF PEOPLE DOING ZERO-WASTE PERFECTLY, WE NEED MILLIONS OF PEOPLE DOING IT IMPERFECTLY ARE YOU A PART OF THE SOLUTION OR THE POLLUTION? As far as the misleading search results or collecting data go, this isn’t really something we can test. But given the track record of the team at Ecosia I’m pretty confident they aren’t out to scam people. One of the reasons I’m pretty excited for the future of Ecosia is because as of now it’s only a simple search engine and it’s making a pretty decent profit, imagine if they create an Ecosia browser, display ad network, video platforms, and everything else Google does. Ecosia could literally single handedly plant all the trees that the earth needs, and maybe even move on to support other good causes as well. If you are reading up to this part, I am really thankful.
