Education and Early Career

From 1984 to 1989, he served as Deputy Assistant Counsel and then Assistant Counsel in the Office of New Jersey Governor Thomas H. Kean.[3][5] During this time, Mintz advised the Governor on healthcare issues including hospital reimbursement and welfare reform.[4]

New Jersey U.S. Attorney's Office

Mintz joined the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey in 1989 as an assistant U.S. Attorney serving for the next nine years in the office under U.S. Attorneys Samuel Alito, Jr., Micheal Chertoff, and Faith S. Hochberg.[3][6] Mintz was assigned to the District's Criminal Division, and later the Fraud and Public Protection Division, where he led a number of white collar criminal prosecutions related to healthcare fraud, bank fraud, defense procurement fraud, and tax violations.[4][7]

In 1994, Mintz was named deputy chief of the office's organized crime strike force division where he led prosecutions against la Cosa Nostra, the Sicilian Mafia, and various Asian and Russian organized crime groups.[1][3][4]

In 2001, after having left the U.S. Attorney's Office, Mintz was on a short list of those being considered by President George W. Bush to become U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey.[8]
