Robert Livingston Casebeer (born March 12, 1931), is an American educator and academic known for his development and direction of Project Prometheus, an innovative summer residential program for able and gifted high school students in southwest Oregon from 1966-1968. He is an Emeritus Professor of English at Southern Oregon University and past President of the Board of Directors of the Talent Historical Society.

Early Life

Robert Livingston Casebeer was born on March 12, 1931 in Roseburg, Oregon to Robert Lincoln Casebeer (b. 1909, d. July 22, 1975), a US Forest Service Forest Guard and Frances Mary Livingston (b. September 7, 1911, d. March 28, 2006). homemaker. While in high school, he met Audrey Marier, whom he married on August 31, 1950, one year after his graduation from Glide High School. Prior to his collegiate academic career, Bob worked as a logger, a sawmill worker, a plywood mill worker, a carpenter, an infantry sergeant during the Korean war (serving with both the infantry and the combat engineers), a newspaper editor, a high school English teacher and guidance counselor, and a college registrar. Robert and Audrey had three adopted children: Kimberly Ann Casebeer (b. 1964), Jeffery Jon Casebeer (b. 1965, d. 2007) and Kevin Andrew Casebeer (b. 1967).[1]

Project Prometheus

Project Prometheus was a six week residential summer high school program for able and gifted high school students from the seven southwestern Oregon counties operating under a three year contract from the U. S. Office of Education under Title III, P. L. 89-10 (The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965) during the project years 1966, 1967 and 1968.[2]
