Roberto Tejada is a Mexian American author of poetry books such as Gift and Verdict (1999), Amulet Anatomy (2001), Mirrors for Gold (2006) and Exposition Park (2010) was born in 1964 in Los Angeles, California. Tejada is also the writer of art history books titled National Camera: Photography and Mexico’s Image Environment (2009) and Celia Alvarez Muñoz (2009).

A renowned translator, editor, essayist, photography historian, and critic, his vast range of cultural studies and creative activities have been recognized with fellowships and grants including from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Fulbright Foundation, Creative Capital Warhol Foundation, Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (São Paulo, Brazil). The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute and the Oakley Center for the Humanities and Social Sciences, Williams College have also responsded with warm reception to Tejada's work.

While living in Mexico City between 1987-1997 Tejada worked as editor of Vuelta magazine, the cultural monthly published by Nobel laureate Octavio Paz. Tejada has also worked as executive editor of Artes de México, a quarterly detailing pre-conquest to contemporary Mexican art.

He founded the multi-lingual literary journal Mandorla: New Writing from the Americas, which was co-edited with Kristin Dykstra and Gabriel Bernal Granados. This publication featured innovative writing both in English and Spanish, as well as translations of already existing works. Mandorla: New Writing from the Americas contains various visual arts to go with many critical pieces.

Tejada has taught at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Dartmouth College, University of California San Diego, University of Texas Austin, SMU Meadows School of the Arts, Naropa University’s Summer Writing Program, and the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College.

The work of Tejada, as a scholar, translator, writer, and educator fuels his attempts to support artists, museum professionals, and art historians, specifically those who endorse cultural differences in their creative research.
