Robert Queen (July 4, 1884 - September 1, 1960) was an American lawyer who most notably litigated the Hedgepeth and Williams v. Board of Education case. Robert Queen was born on July 4, 1884 in Washington, D.C. to Charles A. Queen (b. 1855, Anne Arundel County, MD) and Cornelia Walker (b. 1860, King and Queen County, VA), both formerly enslaved African Americans. Queen chose to attend high school, and paid for his own textbooks and uniform with work in a rooming house owned by Lillian Heth, and became a member of the //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M_Street_High_School Cadets. As a young man, he played on Negro League baseball teams the Virginia Giants of Montclair and the Newark Giants. He graduated from Howard University Law School in 1915. References |
