Rooney grew up in New England but lives in the high desert landscape of Marfa Texas and his music reflects that. His New Record “entitled “was away” will be released by “super secret records”out of Austin Texas in 2019. His last release “one second/forever” features collaborations with drummer "David Crivello of the Icelandic Band “Kaleo” , lou lou Ghelichkhani of Thievery Corporation, paz lenchantin of the Pixies, Young Magic , Tim O’keefe and more. The sophomoric release “year of the machine” produced by Brett Orrison (Black ANgels , Jack White etc) with collaborations with Drummer Justin Collins of “honky”, Kati Williams on violin and Thor Harris (Swans etc) on Drums. and previously the EP “WHite Chocolate Rainbow Destroyer” which he performed alongside violinist and visual artist Kati Williams, names such as “rycootermelontramp, “white chocolate rainbow destroyer” “famous Peoples” Dear Wolf” have all been used as pseudonyms and destined Ryan into a career of obscurity. Ryan has played in a vast variety of projects throughout his career as a musician. starting with Rhode Island based instrumental band the Catatonics formed in 1996 to “Serotonin” (the prog rock instro duo to his collaborations with electrononic music producer Tim O’Keefe. Tim and Ryan have teamed up with actor James Franco and former Smiths bass player Andy O’Rourke to form the band “daddy”. Spanning genres wildly , Ryan has had a long time collaborative relationship with Adam Beckley aka “the Reverend Glasseye” with projects such as the Insect Fable featuring Lindsey Verrill aka Little Mazarn, Cellist Barbara Arriaga , and Brian Viglione (NIN , Dresden Dolls ,etc.) Ryan moved to Austin Texas in 2006 and Joined up with Brian Ramos, John Speice , El Dusty and Nick Trevino to form “KANKO” Kanko was a mix of Brian and Ryan’s songs alongside Cumbia Producer “EL Dusty”. It was a fusion of Cumbia, New Wave, and punk rock. There have been countless collaborations throughout the years including his work with “Jockimo” the Marfa Texas based group. Ryan has also worked as a sound technician for Bands such as The Flaming Lips , Butthole Surfers , My Bloody Valentine ,Frightened Rabbit, Kurt Vile. The Dandy Warhols , Midlake , Heartless Bastards , Purity Ring and many more. his music is noticeably influenced by the musicians he has worked with throughout the years. References |
