Saket Kushwaha (born 28 August 1963) is an Indian agricultural scientist and economist, serving as Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University. Prior to Rajiv Gandhi, he served as a vice-chancellor, department dean or professor-in-charge at several universities including Banaras Hindu University and Lalit Narayan Mithila University. His specialty is in Green Farm Planning{{jargon-inline}} He has published more than a dozen books and a look at them indicates the wide range of his scholarly aptitude. His life and writings have inspired youths in the country and he has been recognized with awards from various organizations.

Kushwaha was born on 28 August 1963 in Bhimsen village, Kanpur Dehat district, Uttar Pradesh, India to the farming family under Brahmannand Kushwaha.{{cn}} His father Surendra Singh Kushwaha taught physics at Banaras Hindu University and served as vice chancellor at Ranchi University and Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith; his mother was a homemaker.{{cn}} Kushwaha dedicated himself to teaching, research, extension work, community services and social service as it gave him intense happiness and pleasure by associating himself with the life of people at large.{{cn}}

Kushwaha has lot of affection to rural society and to the last person of the marginalized society. He motivated conservative families of villages and neighborhood to send their children particularly girls to school as he realized that girl education is vital for rational holistic social upliftment. His pioneering effort in rural and tribal proximity and area of responsibility helped many needy and downtrodden to rise in life and break the shackles of poverty and backwardness. A part from being active in imparting technical education he has also taken initiative to establish a linkages among 18000 farm families where he enlightened students, farm families and all needy ones about optimization of available resources. He also focused on encouraging talented children and provided financial help to sustain their crusade towards educational fulfillment. Very early in his life he could realize the importance of Environment protection and need of green cover and motivated many groups to campaign a special drive Selfi with Tree. He himself went for large scale plantation of fruit trees and various orchards in various location in the country and in Nigeria. Following his advice and guidance, a large section of population has taken to tree plantation. Today when the Indian value of joint family system is at its regression, Prof S. Kushwaha typifies the great Indian value of integration of a big family and started a several courses including Women Studies and Geriatric Care during his Vice Chancellorship at Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga.

On 1 October 2018, Kushwaha was appointed vice chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University for a period of five years.[1]

Personal life

During weekends and holidays he prefers to stay in the villages.

  • 100 Most Influential Vice Chancellor by World Education Forum (2016){{cn}}
  • Gold Medal honor by Sulabh International Social Service Organization (2016), given on "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” project on the day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 66th birthday.[2]
  • Best Educational Administrator of the Year Award by Confederation of Indian Universities (2016){{cn}}
