Sally Browne, (born 24th May 1947) is a fashion designer, business woman, philanthropist and public speaker,.[1] born and based in Melbourne, Australia. After learning to sew in a clothing factory - Lucas in Flinders Lane[2] – and employment with well-known Australian fashion houses such as Sportsgirl[2], Browne went on to start her own fashion label in the early 70’s, Sally Browne Pty Ltd, which became a multi-million dollar company and won numerous awards for excellence in fashion design and outstanding business leadership[3].

Alongside her fashion business, Browne raised four children as a single mother and became involved in a number of entrepreneurial ventures, including the development of the first heart rate monitor to measure and identify stress with scientists in Finland - Polar Mentor Heart Rate Monitor[4] - and research into potential applications of 3D Printing to the fashion industry.

Browne has been an Australia Day Ambassador[5] since 2001 and serves on a number of committees and boards. She is also involved in a large number of philanthropic activities through her own charitable foundation, including [https://www.motherlessdaughters.com.au/ Motherless Daughters Australia][6], which organises gatherings for young women who have lost their mother[7]. Browne is known for saying that life should be lived “taking care, taking risks and having fun”[8].

Early Life

Sally Iggulden (married name: Sally Browne)[9] was born in Elsternwick, Victoria in 1947. She was educated at St Leonard’s Presbyterian College in Brighton, between 1952 and 1964.

Browne describes her childhood as “free spirited, with few boundaries”. Music and fun with friends and family featured heavily in her early life, and the garden of her family home was often full with childhood friends and siblings building tree houses, flying foxes and underground cubbies. Jazz music was often heard emanating from Browne’s family home. Browne recalls family holidays camping in the bush, trout fishing, gathering wild blackberries and mushrooms for dinner, and attending Gliding Competitions.

During her early teenage years Browne learned the guitar at Lou Toppano’s Music School, and started playing washboard with the Red Onion Jazz Band across Melbourne and at jazz conventions around Australia[10].
