The San Diego County Sheriff's Department Explorer Program is a volunteer youth program instilled into the San Diego County Sheriff's Department Volunteer Services division and sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America.[1] Deputy Explorers are men and women of the public between the ages of 16-21 who have passed a law enforcement explorer academy. The goal of the Explorer Program is to train young men and women to work alongside Deputy Sheriff's and gain knowledge of the field of law enforcement.

The Explorer Program, as of February 2019, consists of over seventy explorers stationed across San Diego County. Deputy Explorers perform traffic control and work public events across San Diego County year-round. Deputy Explorers also work patrol ride alongs with Deputy Sheriff's. Each Deputy Explorer must perform at least twenty hours of volunteer service per month to remain an active member of the Explorer Program. The geographical command structure of the Explorer Program is split into North County and South County.
