Background and Education

Sarah Rawlinson was born in the state of New York and moved to Florida when she was just ten years old. She received her undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering degree at the University of Miami in 2012. She then went on to earn a Ph.D. in Bioengineering at Clemson University five years later in 2017. Dr. Rowlinson has always enjoyed science and considered going into the medical field. However, due to the economy at the time, her additional interest in BME, and an influential summer research position studying cardiovascular disease, she decided on pursuing a career in the field of biomedical engineering instead.

Career and Research

Dr. Rowlinson currently works at the University of Florida as of the summer of 2017 in the J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering[1] as a Lecturer and Undergraduate Coordinator. Before coming to UF, she also worked as a graduate teaching assistant and later an instructor for the General Engineering program at Clemson University. Being a teaching assistant is when Dr. Rowlinson began to develop and improve curriculum, more specifically online curriculum. She then became a the lead lecturer for Engineering Graphics and Machine Design. Dr. Rowlinson's research in UF's Cellular Engineering Laboratory[2] now revolves around teaching methodologies for biomedical engineering. The lab is located in the Biomedical Sciences Building (BME) in room 2333L. By using a mixed method that involves interviewing test subjects (her students) and analyzing test scores, she hope to understand how engineering students learn and what teaching methods are most effective. Furthermore, she aims to improve curriculum as the field of biomedical engineering is continuously changing. Affiliations of Dr.Rowlinson's research include: Ohio State University, University of Illinois, Clemson University, and University of Georgia.
