School of Energy Science and Engineering, HIT (Chinese:哈尔滨工业大学能源科学与工程学院) is one of schools of Harbin Institute of Technology. It has three campuses, including Harbin campus, Weihai campus and Shenzhen campus.

History

The School of Energy Science and Engineering was established in 1994, which was formerly known as the Department of Power Engineering of HIT. This department, which was founded in 1954, was one of the earliest department in the discipline of power engineering in China. In June, 1994, the Department of Power Engineering and Automotive Engineering of HIT were merged into the School of Energy Science and Engineering. Chen Zhuoru was the first dean. In July 1997, the Department of Automotive Engineering was moved to Weihai campus from Harbin campus and in 1998, the Hydraulic Technique Teaching Base of School of Energy Science and Engineering was merged into the School of Electro-mechanical Engineering, HIT.

Faculty

The School of Energy Science and Engineering consists of nine research institutes.[1]: Institute of combustion technology, Institute of Aeronautical and Astronautical Thermophysics, Research Institute for Gas Dynamics of Engine, Institute of Propulsion Theory and Technology, Institute of Advanced Power Control and Reliability, Institute of Power Machinery Vibration and Noise Control Technology, Center for Fluid machinery and Engineering, Center for Energy and Environmental Engineering, Institute of Industrial Electronic Technology.

Qin Yukun, dean of Institute of Combustion Technology, is a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The school has significant contribution to China's national defense and space industry, including Long March 5[2] and Carbon-based energy storage.[3]
