Scio School District or (Scio SD 95) is a public school district located in Scio, Oregon. The district teaches grades K-12 and serves the greater Scio community with five schools, two of which are charter schools[4]. The 3 primary school are located within Scio while the charters are located in nearby Jordan, Oregon and the other being an online public school service. In the 2017-2018 academic year, the district enrolled 766 students and had 56 teachers[2].

District Demographic

Over the 2017-2018 academic year, the district had a student population that was 87% White, 7% Hispanic, 2% American Indian, and 4% mixed race. With 5 different primary languages being spoken at student homes. 13% of students were classified with disabilities and 38% of students received free or reduced price lunches[2]. The teacher demographic was primarily white, at a reported 97%[2].

Schools

Scio High School

Scio High School enrolls all 9-12 grade students within the district. Located at the northern limit of Scio, the school enrolled 235 students during the 2017-2018 academic year[6]. The school hosted smaller class sizes and had below average student attendance when compared to Oregon high school averages[6]. Scio High School has seen incredible graduation rates in recent years. 95% of students received their diplomas in 4 years (compared to state average of 77%) and 99% of students earned their diploma or GED in 5 years (compared to state average of 83%)[6].

Scio Middle School

The majority of 6-8 grade students attend Scio Middle School located near the center of Scio. The school's mascot is the Warrior. In 2017-2018, Scio Middle School saw above average state test scores with 63% and 51% of students meeting the grade-level expectations in English and Mathematics, respectively [7].

The school offers several academic extracurricular activities[7]:

As well, several intramural sports[7]:

  • Pickle ball

Centennial Elementary School

Centennial Elementary is the primary school for grades K-5 in the district. Named after the district's 100th birthday, Centennial is located just west of Scio Middle School. The school focuses on primary education and has larger class sizes. The 2017-2018 state testing reported the percent of students meeting their grade-level expectations, as followed[8].

Charter Schools

Lordes Charter School

Lordes Charter School is located in Jordan, Oregon about 8 miles east of Scio. Founded in 1898 as the Bender School[9], The school teaches grades K-8 and pursues great student success. The school was originally affiliated with the neighboring Catholic church, Our Lady of Loudes, but state law would force it to become public in 1997 as a charter school of Scio School District. Lourdes has limited class sizes and an emphasis on placement according to ability instead of age.

Oregon Virtual Education

Oregon Virtual Education (ORVED) was founded in 2009 to provide online courses for students in grades 6-12. Providing courses to all Oregon Schools.
