Scott Herbertson (born December 4, 1967) is an American born thoroughbred owner, and entrepreneur. In the past four years, since establishing Herbertson Racing Stable in 2014, Scott has been named horse racing owner/executive Rookie of the Year[1] by the Thoroughbreds Owners of California, the leading horse racing owner at Golden Gate Fields, Fall Mart, 2015 [2] and "had a fantastic 2017 campaign, winning 24 of 63 races overall for a phenomenal 38.1 win percentage" heading into the Breeders Cup.[3] He currently serves as owner and CEO of Herbertson Racing Stable, which he started in 2014 with his first born son, Ari Francis Herbertson who is the head trainer and also a thoroughbred owner.

Early life

Herbertson was born in Walnut Creek, California to Judith Ann and James Alan Herbertson on December 4th, 1967. Scott was often cared for by his grandmother, Margeret Herbertson. Scott placed his first bet with his grandmother, who taught him about odds, payouts, and how to read The Daily Racing Forum. He put up and dollar and Margeret acted as the house. It was an exciting televised Belmont Stakes race and, Scott won betting on Affirmed.

As a child, Scott loved playing sports as well: baseball, football, basketball, tennis. He was also an avid Topps Baseball Card collector. At 11 years old he started going to the races with his Aunt and Uncle, Linda and Wayne Woodard, it was then he started to focus on The Daily Racing Forum, it became his bible. Thoroughbred stats became his number one priority.

He graduated from Santa Ynez Union High School in 1996.

Career

When Herbertson first heard about the opportunity to become part owner of thoroughbreds, Wild Bella and Bench Light through his trainer friend, Mike Pender he took it.[4] He thrived quickly, in the past four years of owning thoroughbreds, his total purse earning to date, over $750,000.00[5] with 59 wins, 47 seconds, and 27 thirds in 193 starts [6]. Scott worked intensely from the onset with trainers, jockeys and everyone concerned with the thoroughbred. Scott can be seen right up to the moment the jockey is lifted on the thoroughbred, giving his last-second impressions on the horse, track conditions and possible threats.

His first big win was with horse, Bench Light[7], Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, Trainer: Mike Pender and Jockey: Kent Desormeaux. Purse: $77,000.00
