词条 | Draft:Sexual Norm Enforcement Practices in Sri Lanka |
释义 |
Sexual Norm Enforcement (SNE) mechanisms are practiced based on the proposition that “non-normative” sexual orientations can be changed by reinforcing heterosexual behaviours. The Sri Lankan Law still criminalizes the LGBTIQ+ groups; therefore, these practices capitalize on the potentially "vulnerable" individuals who are pressurized to be “normal”. Sexual Norm Enforcement practices take place in two ways;
Direct institutional intervention occurs when individuals are directly intact with any institution which offers “cure” for “non-normative” sexual orientations. These practices can range from Reparative Therapy, electric shock therapy, various religious cult practices and black magic practiced in different areas of the country. Indirect institutional intervention takes place when individuals are physically, mentally and emotionally abused by others and/or forced heterosexual marriages which would correct their non-normative behaviours. There is a conspicuous silence in conducting research or study about Sexual Norm Enforcement Practices in Sri Lanka. References |
