He was a disciple of Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar. He, along with Shri N. M. Khare, set up a board in 1931: the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal[3][4]. This board was set up to continue the work started by Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar to promote and propagate Indian Classical Music throughout India[4]. In June 1937, he and his younger brother, Pandit Narayanrao Vyas, founded The Vyas Academy Of Indian Music, also known as Vyas Sangeet Vidyalaya[1]: a school for Hindustani classical music in Dadar, India. He composed music for dozens of Bollywood movies in the 1937-1955 time period[3][1]. He also composed several bandishes, and wrote many books that contained many of his compositions. Vyas's music scores in films such as Ram Rajya, Narsi Bhagat, Vikramaditya (film), Bharat Milap, etc. became quite popular.[9].
