Racing careerVan der Linde started his racing career in karting at the age of 6 in which he excelled far above competitors in his category. His karting career was followed by the next step into the South African Polo Cup championship. Sheldon won in his first season of car racing and to date remains the youngest driver to win a national championship in South Africa. In 2016 he made his mark in European motorsport by progressing into the Audi Sport TT Cup. Sheldon achieved four wins and numerous podiums in his rookie year. Ever since starting his European career Sheldon has been proudly associated with Audi Sport. In 2018 it will be his 3rd consecutive year with the brand. Sheldon is currently partially contracted by Audi Sport as a factory driver in the two 24 hour races at Nurburgring and Spa. In 17 January 2019, BMW Motorsport announced that he will replace Augusto Farfus in BMW DTM driver roster , competing in the German-based Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters series with BMW Team RBM. Thus became the first South African driver to compete in DTM. |
