Shirley Pinto (born March 15, 1989) is Deaf and fluent in Israeli sign language, a social-political activist and one of the founders of the Israeli Center for Deaf Studies. Pinto is involved in public activity, appears in communications and is an intern in a law firm.

Biography

Shirley Pinto was born and raised in the Krayot to deaf parents. Her father is deaf, her mother is deaf and blind and she has a younger brother who hears. Her mother is a theater actress in "Nalaga'at". She was educated at Beit Hinuch Carmel Zevulun in Kibbutz Yagur, in the field of graphic design and social sciences, and received a full matriculation certificate with honors.

Pinto spent most of her childhood in her mother's parents' home, alongside her sign-language parents. Public Activity

In 2014 she joined the Shema Association for deaf and hearing-impaired children and was employed as a counselor and coordinator of informal educational activities. She was later appointed director of the Dan Region Club, and led a fundraising evening to enrich the activities of the children's clubs, which ended successfully. In May 2015, she represented Israel in India on her own initiative, together with her deaf partner, for assistance and legal-educational counseling for children and deaf youth in Indor. Toward the end of her role as director of the club in 2016, she established, together with other founders, the Israel Center for Deaf Studies in order to promote the status of deaf and hearing-impaired people who speak sign language, To recognize the equality of sign language and spoken languages, and to create awareness of the need for the deaf to be accessible and accepted by the general public.

In early 2017, Pinto initiated a bill to make public television broadcasts on sign language television, led by MK Issawi Freij and MK Eitan Cabel.[7]

Ruderman Foundation in cooperation with the ('N'), organized and led Pinto together with Ido Granot, meeting the actress's film Marlee Matlin with the community of deaf and hard of hearing in Israel. The meeting was named "Mark of Success" and was held at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque. Hundreds of people from all over Israel came to the meeting, and Pinto guided the event. On January 3, 2018, Pinto, a State Control Committee in the Knesset headed by Shelly Yachimovich, said that 45 hours of translation per year is not enough for deaf Holocaust survivors, who need to get to hospitals and doctors more young.[18]
