Feminist theory|workplaces=Cornell University}}Shirley Samuels is Professor of English and American Studies at Cornell University.[1] She has previously held positions at Cornell University as Chair of History of Art and Director of Feminism, Gender and Sexuality Studies. Her academic interests lie in the disciplines of American studies, Visual culture, Literary criticism and Feminist studies. Her research focuses on American literature and Culture, Eighteenth- and nineteenth-century American fiction, Feminist criticism, American studies, Late 20th-Century Women Writers and Visual Culture, Narratives of Mobility and Escape in Nineteenth-Century America and Social and Sexual Constructions of Whiteness, Ethnicity, and Race.
