Sijibomi Ogundele ( born April 8, 1983) is a Nigerian businessman, entrepreneur, venture capitalist and real estate mogul.^[1]. He is the founder and lead partner of Sujimoto Group of Companies which deals in real estate, finance and energy. The firm has offices in Paris, Accra, Madrid, Dubai, Riyadh and Lagos. He is often referred to as the Donald Trump of Nigeria due to his high business acumen and taste for luxury buildings^[2].

Early life and education

Sijibomi Ogundele was born into a Yoruba family in Agege, Lagos. He attended Lagos State Model College, Meiran and thereafter proceeded to the Anglia Ruskin University to study law. At the age of 9, he started visiting Ikoyi, a highbrow area exclusively for the rich people in Nigeria with the inspiration that someday he will have the opportunity to live there^[3]. Ogundele attributes his success to his mother, who started as a salesgirl and became one of the top 5 distributors of Nestle^[4]. At a tender age, he would follow his mum to the market where he learnt different aspects of trading^[5]. However, his love for real estate started at a young age when while building sand castles at Bar Beach in Victoria Island, Lagos. His love for luxury real estate grew In 2011 while living in South of Frace as a real estate agent, he bought an apartment and thereafter remodelled it. The apartment was later sold for double the price.

He speaks 7 languages including English, French, Spanish, Yoruba, Hausa, Japanese and Arabic.

Career

Sijibomi started his career in risk assessment in 2004, where he moved up to lending in SMEs and set up Moto Finance in Paris which later branched out in Accra, Dubai, Madrid and New York City; achieving significant industry milestones, then later moving into the Nigerian Real Estate industry^[6]. He then founded Sujimoto ^[7], through a partnership with real estate mogul, Mr. Yazeed Alrahji, Chairman of DAEM Real Estate Investment Company Saudi Arabia. He named Sujimoto after his mentor Sujimoto Koga, a Japanese university professor who he has often described as the man that boosted his confidence, and caused a lifelong change in his life and business^[8]. His vision is to redefine luxury living by exceeding all expectations^[9]. His first major real estate project was Lincoln Avenue, a set of 16 townhouses of 4-bedroom apartments (in conjunction with Wonda World/Petronia) in Accra, Ghana^[10], he thereafter went on to construct Medici Terraces Luxury Apartments in Lagos^[11]. His forthcoming project “LorenzoBySujimoto’’ is described as the tallest residential building in Nigeria and Africa’s first fully automated residential apartments^[12] ^[13] ^[14]. His popular mantra is 1+1=11 which he describes as Motomatics, which means 'Never give up’ ^[15].

Philantrophy

In 2016, Sujimoto gave Olajumoke Orisaguna, a Nigerian model who received public attention when, while hawking bread on the streets of Lagos, unknowingly walked into a photo shoot session of British rapper, Tinie Tempah[, by Nigerian photographer, TY Bello, for Nigeria's This Day magazine a luxury accommodation and scholarship to learn Etiquette, Social Graces and grooming over a period of 1 year. Sijibomi also offered to give 5million naira to anyone who can dig the photo he took in 1993 with the late politician, business mogul and acclaimed winner of the June 12th Presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola^[16]

Personal Life

Sijibomi Ogundele has been rumoured to be dating DJ Cuppy, Nigerian disc jockey and daughter of Nigerian businessman Femi Otedola.^[17] and Ex-beauty queen Dabota Lawson ^[18]. He has however denied both claims. Sijibomi has also revealed his affection for fast cars and antique watches. He bought a pricey Patek Phillipe wristwatch that costs $150,000 (N23 million) and when asked, he said he procured it so his grandson can one day use it ^[10]
