Skye Kathleen Moody (born Kathleen Moody), adopted her grandfather's given name. Her books of fiction and nonfiction are published under the names Skye Moody or Skye Kathleen Moody. Her short stories are published under the name Kathleen Moody. Moody is known for her Venus Diamond Series environmental mysteries.

Biography

Moody is a Seattle, WA native, and has lived and worked in Appalachia, New Orleans, LA, Ventura, CA, Seattle, WA, East Africa, and Mexico.

Career

Moody is most famously known as the author of the eight book Venus Diamond mystery series featuring the feisty heroine, Department of the Interior agent, Venus Diamond. Books in the Venus Diamond Series address environmental issues and are often set in the Pacific Northwest. The series was inspired by Moody's frequent interactions with endangered species in the Pacific Northwest, Asia, and East Africa. The series debuted in 1996 with Rain Dance. Her other literary works include three books of literary nonfiction, short stories, essays, academic articles, and one-act plays.

Moody's first book, Hillbilly Women, was adapted and produced Off-Broadway in 2011, and was awarded the Mademoiselle "Woman of the Year" Award[1]. Her book, Washed Up: The Curious Journeys of Flotsam and Jetsam, received a Washington State Book award, and for which she also was named a “Coastal Character” by Coastal Living magazine.

Moody has worked as a bush guide in East Africa, leading medical safaris into the Tanzania and Kenya bush to diagnose and treat diseases within tribal villages. Photographic exhibitions have been mounted in Seattle, WA: New York, NY; Moscow; and Leningrad. She is also a 30+-year member of PEN American Center, having served on the organization's national board of directors, as well being a member of PEN Center USA, and UK-based Cloud Appreciation Society.

In 1997, Moody founded and edited Southern Lights: PEN South's Literary Anthology. The volume included poems, short stories, and essays from PEN members throughout the world.

Moody received a National Endowment for the Humanities grant for her book Fruits of Our Labor, US and Soviet Workers Talk About Making a Living.
