Hashu Mohammed (born 10th May 1992) is a British Bengali YouTube Personality, comedian and public figure. He is better known by his YouTube username SMASHBengali. Since beginning his channel in October 2016, his videos have received over 100,000 views. In 2017, Hashu began performing stand up comedy. To date he has performed stand up comedy in London and at 3 different charity events in his hometown - Birmingham. His biggest performance thus far has been at the Chaandini Charity Ball where he performed as part of a line up which included Bengali Blitz, Iksy, Nish and Zack Knight. His parents are originally from Sylhet, Bangladesh and raised Hashu as Muslim. Hashu is the youngest child in his family and has an elder sister and two elder brothers. As a child, Hashu was described to be incredibly hyperactive with a colourful imagination. Hashu completed his GCSEs at the Four Dwellings High School and his A Levels at Kings Norton Sixth Form. Hashu then studied Electronic Engineering with Business Management at The University of Birmingham where he obtained a 1st Class Integrated Masters (MEng). Hashu began making YouTube videos as a way to express himself after transitioning into the corporate world as a Graduate Engineer at Jaguar Land Rover. Bengali culture is frequently portrayed in his videos, alongside modern takes on everyday cultural topics for those from a Bengali/Pakistani/Indian background. His most popular video is UK Bengali Trends 2016 where he put a cultural twist on viral internet trends from 2016. Hashu has since made a number of videos which combine sketch comedy with his characteristic narration and overlay. Hashu has built up a loyal fanbase of 20,000 combined across Facebook, Instagram & YouTube which he refers to as the "SmashBengaliGushti", "Gushti" translating to "Family" in his mother tongue Bengali. He continues to make videos part-time alongside his full-time role as a Graduate Engineer at Jaguar Land Rover. Live PerformancesHashu began performing live in February 2017, his performances include stand up comedy, music, dancing and a huge emphasis on audience participation. His first performance was at the "Rangeela Charity Ball" organised by the University of Birmingham Bengali Society. This was followed by his performance at the "Chaandini Charity Ball" alongside co-star and best friend Rizwan Uddin. Chaandini was organised by Aston, Birmingham City and Coventry Universities. He also performed at "Essence 2017" (organised by the University of Westminister & City University) and the "Hear to Help Charity Gala" (organised by the Aston Audiology Society). Hashu has performed alongside line ups which have included Iksy, Mumzy Stranger, Nish, Arjun & Zack Knight. BBCIn July 2017, Hashu was invited as a guest onto the BBC Asian Network for the "The Nadia Ali Show". He was invited to complain or "rant" about a subject spontaneously for 60 seconds in a radio segment known as "Bang it out".
