释义 |
Snow Trails is a ski area located in central Ohio near Mansfield and midway between Columbus and Cleveland. It opened in 1961 and is located in one of the coldest valleys in Ohio. It features 140 acres of skiable terrain, a 300 foot vertical drop, 6 chairlifts and one conveyor belt lift. The area has a free youth racing program, holds ski races open to all every other weekend, and hosts races by the Columbus ski club and College and University ski teams. It features a two day winter carnival with bikini races, a green splash pond, a homemade sled race, aerial competitions and a weekend party atmosphere on the large lodge deck. The season begins in early December most years and lasts until the first week of March in good years. The ski runs include a mogul run, two terrain parks, jumps and long wooded run which is the longest in the state and a rarely skied back side run. A tubing park was built on one of the runs and now hosts more visitors than the ski area. The alpine style wooden lodge has two bars, a cafeteria, a large central fireplace, locker rooms, offices and a large deck. Saturday nights feature music performances by mostly local rock bands. The area was founded by a group of Columbus investors and Mansfield resident and first president Dave Carto who eventually bought out the others and developed the area. It had one of the earliest snow making systems and now boasts an advanced chiller that cools water prior to using it for snow making enabling it to open first in Ohio most years. The area has lights for night skiing on most runs. Along with a lodge, the area features a central drive, a ski shop, and ski patrol and ski/snowboard rental buildings. A ski swap is held in October to support the ski patrol. Referenceshttps://www.snowtrails.com/ |
