Sobha is primarily focused on residential and contractual projects.[3] The company is currently developing Sobha Hartland,[4] a mixed-used development in the centre of Dubai.[2][5] Headquartered in Dubai, arguably the luxury capital of the new world, Sobha Realty builds an exquisite and rare collection of coveted real estate at the sough-after locations in the world, including an eclectic gathering of royalty and modern-day czars.[6] Artfully created by master designers and crafted to the highest level of detail, these developments set the benchmark for the world’s finest real estate.[7] HistorySobha Realty was founded by Mr. PNC Menon, one of the world’s most successful and respected real estate companies. Mr. Menon established the roots of the company in 1976 under the name of Services and Trade Co, an interior decoration company based in Muscat, Oman.[2] By 1984, the company went on to work for the royalty of Oman, Bahrain, Brunei and the president of Tajikistan.[8] The Grand Mosque in Muscat bears testimony to his work. Over the course of 8 years, he developed a strong bond with Oman, a country which provided him with a strong foundation and “backbone” that has enabled him to achieve greater success in the years ahead.[7] In 1995, he and his family and were granted Omani citizenship.[8] Mr. Menon expanded his business footprint in 2003 to Dubai, the business capital of the Middle East.[7][9] ProjectsThe Sobha Hartland project was launched in 2014, which is a $4 billion-dollar, mixed-use development. The resort-style luxury housing project encompasses 8 million square feet of freehold community in Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum City. 30% (2.4 million square feet) of the community is only reserved for greenery.[10] It is the only freehold community located on the Dubai Water Canal in the epicentre of Dubai with easy access to the city’s hottest attractions like the Burj Khalifa, Meydan racecourse, Ras Al Khor Wildlife sanctuary and many more within a 3 km radius.[7][11] Sobha Hartland encompass a limited collection of ultra-contemporary villas, townhouses, modern mid & high-rise apartments, a clubhouse, two international schools, three boutique hotels, premium restaurants, retail, spa, community mall and leisure activities.[12][5] The development has commenced with the launch of Hartland Greens Apartments, Hartland Estates Townhouses, Hartland Estates Villas and Sobha Creek Vistas - classic contemporary G+28 residential twin towers.[13][14] Currently, Sobha Realty, the real estate developer is in a joint venture with the Meydan Group for the Mohammed Bin Rashid City District One Project, located near Downtown, Dubai.[2][15] Social initiativesThe social initiatives of Sobha Group are channelized through Sri Kurumba Educational and Charitable Trust, which has been doing silent service, focusing on three economically backward panchayats (consisting of 6 villages) in Palakkad district in Kerala.[16][17] Some of the key social projects are – a) Sobha Hermitage: A unique senior citizens home with world class amenities.[18][27] b) Sobha Health Care: A primary health centre with high quality amenities and service for medical treatment.[19] c) The Sobha Academy: An exclusive educational institution for the underprivileged children.[19] d) Sobha Icon- High School support initiative: An educational initiative to improve the standards of Government school students.[20] e) Sobha Icon Higher Secondary Course: A technology-driven, professional college enrolment oriented program for science and commerce stream.[20] f) Sobha Rural Women Empowerment Rehabilitation Programme: program for 46 widowed mothers and their 88 children.[21] g) Sobha Young Widows Rehabilitation Programme: for young mothers and their children. 7 Young widows out of 18 have been remarried off.[21][22] h) Sobha Dowry-Less Social Wedding: a unique programme for eradicating the societal malaise of dowry from the weaker section of the community. 590 underprivileged girls have been married so far.[21] i) Social Rehabilitation Scheme: for the people of the above three backward panchayats. Plans are afoot to extend similar schemes in Karnataka and NCR region, benefitting a total of 12,000 children. Half of PNC Menon’s personal wealth has been pledged towards upliftment of the society.[23] The direct beneficiaries of Sri Kurumba Trust, now Sri Kurumba Educational & Charitable Trust, of which Mr. Menon is the Founder Trustee, are currently 4485 families consisting of 17171 people from Vadakkenchery, Kizhakkencherry and Kannambra grama panchayats (total 6 villages in Palakkad district of Kerala).[24] In 2016, both PNC Menon and his wife Sobha Menon joined The Giving Pledge - a philanthropic initiative started by legendary investor Warren Buffet, former Microsoft chairman Bill Gates and his wife Melinda.[23] PNC Menon: awards and recognition
