  • The pagename will need to be changed as it conflicts with the capital of Bulgaria. I would suggest moving this to Sofia Art Academy
  • I question the notability per GNG. It seems to mostly have received press coverage due to the celebrity of one pupil. His participation doesn't appear to be notable enouch to warrent a mention at Tyson Chandler.
  • The Curriculum section could use some trimming as those details don't appear to be discussed in sources independent from the subject of the article.
  • Does the "From Russia with Love to Art" reference, or other sources, comment on the success of Sofia students gaining entrance to the reputable colleges listed?
  • The references are a bit sparse with 3/7 referring to the subject's own website.
Most importantly: After writing the above I just noticed [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&page=Draft%3ASofia in the logs] that an abandoned page with this title was deleted in August of last year. The deletion summary states that a request for undeletion should be made per REFUND/G13. This does not appear to have happened. I note that {{AFC submission|||ts=20180607080557|u=Euphorbia456|ns=}} appears in this page. That date indicates that you have copied and pasted the pre-deleted contents. This is outside of process and prevents me from reviewing the pre-deletion discussions (if any) that occurred before August.

For these reasons I am declining to review this page until some of these issues can be resolved. — mikeu talk 22:07, 3 April 2019 (UTC)}}

  • The page title is not a problem - Mu301 should have fixed that. Nor is the previous text at Sofia a problem. It was a 200 byte stub about a person with the gender-ambiguous name of Sofia William Morrison. However the other comments by Mu301 are serious. The article is certainly not acceptable in its current form. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:46, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

History

Sofia Art Academy was founded in 1993 in Dallas, Texas by two Russian immigrants, mother and son Sofia Khunteyev and Igor Khunteyev (Charna Khunteyev, Sofia’s daughter graduated with B.A Mass Communications with specialisation in Business Marketing and Advertising from Texas Tech University in 2004 and came on board in 2007). Both founders of the School have art degrees.[1] Dr. Sofia Khunteyev received her Master of Fine Art from Tashkent Institute of Theater and Art (Uzbekistan) and her D.A. from Tbilisi State University (Georgia). Igor Khunteyev has a Master of Fine Art from Tashkent Institute of Theater and Art (Uzbekistan). He also has a degree of Associate of Applied Arts (AAA) in Multimedia Production and Computer animation from Art Institute of Dallas.[2] After working for private US schools Akiba Academy, The Winston School, White Rock Montessori School, Hockaday School, the founders had opened the first branch.[3]

The second branch of the Sofia Academy was opened in Miami, Florida in 2012.[4]

Curriculum

The academy accepts pupils from five years old to adults with no upper age limit.[5] The main curriculum based on classical European drawing and painting tradition is divided into four levels according to student ages:[6]

  • 5 - 9 (chidren);
  • 9 - 13 (children to preteens);
  • 13+ - teens to adults.

The levels of the main curriculum are:

  • First level - painting and drawing of simple objects;
  • Second level - complex objects;
  • Third level - complex objects and forms, sculptures, and still life.
  • Fourth level - human muscle anatomy, head, torso, and full body.

After completing the main program, there are also three Masters levels.

Additional curriculum

  • Art Portfolio program and students preparation for audition to magnet schools;
  • Art Portfolio program for Art colleges.

Notable pupils

NBA player Tyson Chandler has attended the Academy and said that art is “calming and therapy”.[5][7]
