Soliman “Dexter” or “Dex” A. Villamin Jr. (Born July 20, 1979) is a Filipino businessman who established the agribusiness venture DV Boer Farm International Corp.[1][2] He used to be an Overseas Filipino Worker in Thailand and later started his own business of agriculture and livestock in the rural areas.

Early life

Villamin is the fourth child of Soliman J. Villamin, a member of Philippine Air Force, and Joselyn Gonzales Alaer, a businesswoman. Both are from the province of Batangas.

A high school dropout[3], he worked his way up by self-educating in sales/marketing and culinary work. He started off by helping out in his mother’s business stall selling mobile phones.

Career

He made the rounds in the kitchens of premier hotels in Manila and went to Thailand to work as a pastry chef.

While in Thailand, he mentored the champion team at the Culinary Gathering of Cooks in 2008 and in the first Asian Culinary Cup the following year.

It was also in Thailand where he bought a book called “Professional Baking” by French food expert Wayne Gisslen. The book influenced his business philosophy.

In October 2017, he was specially invited to prepare the feast for the cremation ceremony of Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyade.

DV Boer Farm

His constant exposure to Thai food where according to him 95 percent is farm-grown inspired him to put up his own sustainable farm in the Philippines. He founded DV Boer Farm[4][5] (combining his name’s initials and the type of first-rate goat he prefers) as a goat meat breeding, then transformed it into a Stag program selling pregnant goats for P6,500 each. After the company’s first-year revenue hit P680,000, he immediately envisioned the Paiwi program by buying animals from clients, have them bred in his farm, then purchase the offsprings for his factory (or wet market for the masses).

In 2016, DV Boer Farm, which likewise introduced the Batangas-pride Angas Beef, raked in a staggering Php 43 million in revenue. The farm professionalized Paiwi or Paalaga by furnishing documented agreement and insurance policies.

Sub-farming quickly came next as business partners sign up for accreditation with a corresponding fee in exchange for DV Boer sharing its expertise in managing cash flow and guiding their respective farms in maximizing productivity.

By the end of 2018, a total of 95 DV Boer Sub-Farmers are in existence, with more than 2,000 employees populating the whole new community of farmers it propagated.

The DV Boer brand stretched its thrusts to other businesses to provide jobs and assistance to the needy and empower the agriculture business community. These are DV Boer Magsasaka Inc., DV Boer Microfinance, DV Boer Properties, DV Garments, DV Boer Foundation, Sinag Productions, Magsasaka TV, among others.

Social Entrepreneurship

Villamin attributes the success of his farm management business largely to the strength of social media. DV Boer’s Paiwi program became in-demand once its fast rate of success became viral.

He also put up [https://www.facebook.com/magsasakainclivelihood/ Magsasaka Inc.] as a non-profit organization promoting agriculture-based socioeconomic development especially in provincial areas.

He has sponsored education of children whose parents he barely knew, shouldered hospital bills of neighbors with long-suffering ailments, and convinced OFW-friends to come home and work with him instead.

He currently hosts two free TV, weekly programs titled “Magsasaka TV” and “Kusina Sa Kanayunan” (Kitchen In the Countryside) where his social advocacy on livelihood provision and innate love for fine, value-for-money food are showcased in good taste. He also has a segment appropriately called “DexKarte” and affixed to the iconic agri-show “Damayan” which aired Fridays, 2 pm on PTV-4 and now will have a second season.[6][7][8]

“Sobra po akong naaawa sa mga taong nasasayang ang buhay dahil hindi alam ang gagawin,” [9](I feel for the people who do not know what to do with themselves) he said.

He donated several fishing boats to beneficiaries in Lian town last November 23, 2018. The project, “Banca Ni DV”, is part of DV Boer’s Corporate Social Responsibility christened “Oplan Pamamalakaya.”[10][11]
