The South Peninsula Area Republican Coalition[1] ("SPARC"), founded in 1999, is a chapter of the California Congress of Republicans ("CCR"), a statewide, grassroots organization chartered by the California Republican Party ("CRP").  Timur [https://www.sparcgop.org/leadership/ Engin] serves as SPARC's current President; Jayne [https://www.sparcgop.org/leadership/ Ham] serves as First Vice President (Events), Leslie [https://www.sparcgop.org/leadership/ Mayr] serves as Second Vice President (Membership), Dee Buhler and John [https://www.sparcgop.org/leadership/ McDonnell] serve as Co-Third Vice Presidents (Grass Roots); Dr. Alexender [https://www.sparcgop.org/leadership/ Glew] serves as Secretary; Rodney Neils-Mayr, Esq.[https://www.sparcgop.org/leadership/] serves as Treasurer. History

SPARC is located in the Bay Area and was founded by Paul Nyberg (publisher of the [https://www.losaltosonline.com/ Los Altos Town Crier]), Duffy Price (the editor of the Los Altos Hills Town Newsletter and appointee on the Los Altos Hills County Fire District Commission and its past President, and former SPARC President) and Sid Hubbard (Hubbard & Johnson Hardware and Lumber family, and Principal of Hubbard Structures). Early members included Duff Sundheim (former Chair of the California Republican Party), Art Carmichael, and Dick Blanding; later members included the late Ralph Cowden and his wife, Darlene, JoAnn Barr (former SPARC Board Member), Lou Becker (former Los Altos council member), Keen Butcher, Diane and Bob Claypool, Bob Fenwick (Stanford professor and inventor), Paul Foerster, the late Firooz Ghaffari, Rick Glaze, Dick Hasenpflug (past SPARC President), Yvonne Holcomb, Charles Marsala, Paul Van Buren, Esq. and Jasper Williams (SPARC Board of Directors member), George and Judy Hill, Dianna Eckford (SPARC Board of Directors member), John McDonnell, Esq. (former SPARC President and former CCR Regional VP), Virginia Chang Kiraly (a local elected fire official), Roy Woolsey (former SPARC Treasurer), Richard Geno (who later started the Conservative Forum, now known as the [https://www.liberty-forum.us/ Liberty Forum of Silicon Valley]), Liz Nyberg, Luis Buhler (serial CFO and consultant), Gloria Hom (educator and SPARC Board Member), Mike Maletic, Esq. SPARC Board Members and the California Congress of Republicans ("CCR")

Former SPARC President Peter Coe [https://www.ccr-gop.com/leadership/ Verbica] (ex officio Board Member of SPARC) is now serving his second term as the President of CCR, the parent organization (of which SPARC is one of its most vital chapters). Former SPARC President John McDonnell and former SPARC Board member George Yang have served as CCR Regional Vice Presidents. SPARC Board Member, Luis Buhler, serves as a Regional Vice President alternate for the Bay Area.

Ralph Cowden Memorial Awardees

The "Ralph Cowden Memorial Award" was first introduced by former SPARC President Peter Coe Verbica; [https://www.losaltosonline.com/people/sections/obituaries/51045-ralph-cowden Ralph Cowden][6], a technologist, executive and civic leader in the Bay Area was a stalwart advocate for SPARC and instrumental in building the upon the initial organizers' success. The Ralph Cowden Memorial Award perpetuates the memory of its namesakes selfless service and is SPARC's highest honor. Ralph Cowden Memorial Awardees include former SPARC President John McDonnell and long-standing SPARC Board Member, Marsha Robertson who has been the instrumental force behind the successful and popular SPARC picnics hosted at the Morgan Manor [7]in Los Altos Hills, California.
