squint is an American alternative rock band based in Austin, TX. Originally formed in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in 1993. squint is best known for the title track from their 2010 album, "Goodnight, Bad Intentions".

Biography

Early years (1993-1997)

Squint (generally typeset as squint) began in 1993 in Houghton, Michigan. Born of the childhood friendship of Dane Adrian (born Dane Adrian Reynolds) and Matt Fredrickson. They recorded a few cassette self releases that were locally distributed in the Upper Peninsula. In 1995 they put together a full length cassette titled "Crashing Down". They also appeared on The Misery Sessions Volume 2 recorded by Bernie Larsen.

After a relocation from Upper Michigan to Ruston, Louisiana, the band entered the studio again, creating an EP titled "Where's My Dinner."

beeker (1998-2002)

After establishing a full line-up in Louisiana, squint began work on their first serious effort. The result was "beeker", recorded in Houston, Texas and released in 1998..[1] The band began to tour extensively throughout the United States supporting acts such as The Goo Goo Dolls and the Toadies.

Tinsel Life (2003-2009)

Riding the increased popularity of the band following the release of "beeker", squint decided to intensify their efforts and recruited producer Ed Stasium (Ramones, Soul Asylum) to produce their next album. The resulting album, "Tinsel Life", was a clean, polished sound that opened doors for the band.

Tinsel Life (2003) was the #10 most added record when it made its debut at college radio[2] according to CMJ and immediately entered the CMJ Top 200.[3]

The song "Quite" is featured on the opening credits for the television series Dark Rising: The Savage Tales of Summer Vale (2011).[4]

squint was also featured on Mark Cuban's HDNet show True Music with Katie Daryl, the episode, which also featured Matchbox 20 and Tantric was aired December 21, 2003[5].

The band was perpetually on tour during these years supporting bands like Fall Out Boy and Alter Bridge. With a relentless tour schedule, recording new music fell to the wayside. To keep fans engaged, the band's label Hoxie Bat Records, re-issued "beeker" in 2006 after Ed Stasium re-mixed the entire album. In the process of going through the masters, Ed discovered a few tracks that were previously left off the album. The re-mix featured 4 more tracks from the original recording sessions.

In 2007, the band released a live album, "No Do-Overs:live". Many of the tracks from this album would go on to be recorded and released.

Goodnight, Bad Intentions (2010-2013)

squint relocated to Austin, Texas in 2008. Finally ready to enter the studio again, the teamed up with producer David Percefull (Bowling for Soup, David Cook) at yellowDOG Studios. The album featured videos from 3 tracks, "Goodnight Bad Intentions", "We All Break the Same", and "To My Protagonists:". The band enjoyed it's most widespread media success with the release of "Goodnight, Bad Intentions" with write-ups in M Music Magazine[6], Deitra Magazine[7], and ATX Music Mag.[8] They enjoyed local Austin success as part of the Austin Chronicle's Austin Music Awards with squint making the top 10 for punk rock bands in Austin in 2010[9], 2011[10], and 2012[11]

Armed with sponsorships from Jagermeister, AKG[12], and Atlas Microphone Stands[13]; squint hit the road performing on the Jägermeister Music Tour with Hinder, Staind, Disturbed, Stone Sour, and Pennywise.

The Art of Scarring (2014-Present)

Recorded in 2014 by squint and mixed by Joseph Milligan of Anberlin, "The Art of Scarring" may prove to be squint's last album. After years of on the cusp of success, the band members separated geographically. Since 2014, the band has performed only a handful of shows. squint has not broken up; yet members have gone onto other projects.
