Stage Write Software is an American technology company which features a patented method to document the positions, movement, and choreography of performers, actors, scenery, props for theatrical productions of all sizes. Founded in 2012 by director/choreographer Jeff Whiting while working on the Broadway production of The Scottsboro Boys and Big Fish with five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman, the iPad app Stage Write for iPad[1] was quickly adopted by numerous Broadway musicals, including Hamilton and The Phantom of the Opera to document and maintain their productions and is a featured app on Apple's iPad website.[2] After gaining over 50,000 users worldwide, the company launched a web system called Stage Write Anywhere[3] allowing users to utilize the software across all platforms and devices. HistoryWhile working on the national tour of Hairspray and The Producers, Jeff Whiting was tasked with the duty to track the movement and positions of every actor at every moment during the show in a "show bible". Surprised that there was no technology available to accomplish the task he set out to create a digital method to depart from having to carrying around giant binders filled with hand-drawn charts. While working on The Scottsboro Boys on Broadway, he saw an iPad for the first time and immediately knew that this device would be the way to finally implement the system. iPad AppAfter creating hundreds of pages of descriptions and visual mock ups, Whiting funded the project himself through his company Open Jar Productions LLC and enlisted [https://www.tekyz.com Tekyz] and [https://www.mobifilia.com Mobifilia] to build the system, which launched in March of 2012 as an iPad app. The system was immediately adopted by many Broadway musicals, the first being Disney's Newsies. Since that time over 60 Broadway musicals and National tours have used the system to document the staging and choreography, including Hamilton, The Phantom of the Opera, The Book of Mormon, Bullets Over Broadway, and many more. In 2012, Apple chose to feature the app on the iPad website [2], and the software was featured in The Wall Street Journal[4], Variety[5], Playbill[6], and and ABC News feature[7] as "the new standard of documentation"[8] A number of Universities and Colleges have implemented training for stage managers by using the software and it has been featured in modern text books about directing[9] Web System: Stage Write AnywhereIn 2018, the company launched [https://www.stagewritesoftware.com Stage Write Anywhere][3], a cloud-based web system to allow users greater access across all platforms and devices and opening up the ability to collaborate with other users and sync data between devices. Products and ServicesSpacing ChartsUsers can enter the dimensions of the space and then create an unlimited number of spacing charts, which allow the user to document the positions and traffic patterns of actors, scenery, props, and all of the moving parts in a production, by creating snapshot views of every formation and movement of the production in accurate dimension. ScriptStage Managers can import a PDF of the script and make notes on blocking, traffic, lighting cues, sound cues, to create a "calling script" and link the spacing charts to the script, allowing the user to flip back and forth between the chart and the script. Staging Score[10]Much like a conductor of a symphony can see what each individual instrument is playing at the same time by looking at her Orchestral Score, the Staging Score[11] allows the Stage Write user to see the detail of choreography, blocking, traffic, timing of every moving piece in their production at the same time, and see how it corresponds to the musical counts or lines of dialogue in the production in as much detail as the user desires. The Staging Score also links the spacing charts so the user can easily see where the performers are standing and flip back and forth to see the location of the performers and the detail of what they are doing in those locations. By utilizing the patented Whiting Method of documentation, the user can enter all of the actions and choreography for all performers. This allows the user to see 'at-a-glance' what every person is doing at a specific moment. CollaborationBy using the Web System users can collaborate, share data and sync data between users. 1. ^{{Cite web|url=https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/stagewrite-for-ipad/id504168392?mt=8|title=StageWrite for iPad on the App Store|website=App Store|language=en-US|access-date=2018-08-26}} 2. ^1 {{Cite web|url=https://www.apple.com/ipad/life-on-ipad/leading-moves-on-broadway/|title=iPad - Life on iPad - Leading moves on Broadway - Apple|website=www.apple.com|language=en-US|access-date=2018-08-26}} 3. ^1 {{Cite web|url=https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/stage-write-anywhere/id1004288568?mt=8|title=Stage Write Anywhere on the App Store|website=App Store|language=en-US|access-date=2018-08-26}} 4. ^{{Cite journal|last=Hedli|first=Laura|date=April 5, 2012|title=Saying Goodbye to the Stage Bible|url=|journal=Wall Street Journal|volume=|pages=|via=}} 5. ^{{Cite journal|last=Cox|first=Gordon|date=February 4, 2012|title=Legit Theatre Creatives Spawn Apps|url=|journal=Variety|volume=|pages=|via=}} 6. ^{{Cite journal|last=Simonson|first=Robert|date=Spring 2012|title=Broadway Choreographer Starts Revolution with Stage Write iPad app|url=|journal=Playbill|volume=|pages=|via=}} 7. ^{{Citation|last=Jeff Whiting|title=Broadway Backstage - StageWrite|date=2012-11-23|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=0nWnDwaFG7M|access-date=2018-08-26}} 8. ^{{Cite journal|last=Felichia|first=Peter|date=March 2012|title=Right Way is the Stage Write Way|url=|journal=MTI Blog|volume=|pages=|via=}} 9. ^{{Cite book|url=https://www.amazon.com/Directing-Musical-Theatre-Essential-Guide/dp/0415624908|title=Directing in Musical Theatre: An Essential Guide|last=results|first=search|date=2014-02-14|publisher=Routledge|isbn=9780415624909|edition= 1st|location=New York|language=English}} 10. ^{{Citation|last=Stage Write|title=Stage Write Anywhere|date=2018-08-07|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkvF5hpy8kE|access-date=2018-08-26}} 11. ^{{Citation|last=Jeff Whiting|title=The Staging Score: StageWrite App|date=2013-09-01|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5YjeYcbpd0|access-date=2018-08-26}} |
