Stan Mullins (born July 1, 1964) is an american painter, sculptor, and multimedia artist.[1]. He works primarily out of his studio in Athens, Georgia. He is an active artist known mainly for his classically inspired paintings and the wide-ranging genres of his sculptures from mythical characters to well-known sports icons [2]

Early Life

Stan was born in Cherry Point, North Carolina[3] on July 1st, 1964. Stan and his family moved to Alexandria, Virginia[4] when he was in grade school and remained in the D.C. area until his father retired from the U.S. Marines in 1978, at which time they relocated to Marietta, Georgia[5] where Stan finished high school.

Stan was a typical high school student of the period. He played football, baseball, and basketball and enjoyed skateboarding, comic books, and rock and roll. The two latter interests would be recurring themes and sources of inspiration and collaboration throughout his adult life.

Education

Stan received an undergraduate degree in Art and a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Georgia. During this period, Stan became involved in the University of Georgia's studies abroad program in Cortona, Italy. After the initial trip to Cortona in the summer of 1986, Stan returned in the fall of 1987 and began his professional career in earnest with two commissions in the city of Perugia, Italy. Fulfilling the requirements for his masters degree with this work, Mullins returned to the Athens campus of the University of Georgia to defend his thesis and successfully present his masters exhibition.

Early Career

After completing a mural project for the 1996 Olympic Games in Athens, Georgia, Stan left for New York City to further his career as an artist. During this period, Mullins was approached to be a part of the Columbus Drive Mural project. Mullins was one of 20 artists selected to create one of the largest murals on the East Coast of the U.S. covering 10 consecutive buildings in downtown Jersey City.

Stan also worked during this time as Artist Coordinator at Pace Wildenstein McGill GalleryMOMA while also serving in the membership and development department at MOMA.

Stan returned to Athens in 2000 to continue developing both his studio and his portfolio of work. in 2001, Stan returned to Italy for the first time in 10 years and his experience during this time validated his interest and passion in sculpture.
