}}Surfshark is a VPN service for desktop and mobile devices.[1][2] [3] SpecificationsThe VPN uses the OpenVPN, UDP, TCP and IKEv2 protocols with AES-256 encryption.[4] The VPN has a kill switch which blocks internet access in the event of connection failure, thus preventing its user’s identity and location from being leaked.[1] The VPN has a private DNS on each server which reduces the chance of others spying on the VPN user’s activities. The VPN comes with an extra security feature called MultiHop. MultiHop passes its user’s web traffic through two VPN servers.[2] There is also a smart WI-FI protection panel which defines what the VPN client does when its users access a network. Surfshark comes with a CleanWeb feature which blocks ads, trackers and malicious links.[2] Surfshark users can also create whitelists of applications and websites which can bypass the VPN entirely. The VPN uses AES-256-GCM encryption which is different from the AES-256-CBC encryption commonly used in commercial VPN services. SecurityIn a test carried out by cyber security firm, Cure 53 Surfshark VPN was found to be effective at preventing DNS leaks and while the code audit did expose one vulnerability in the code the report deemed the vulnerability to be unexploitable.
