Suzanne Csikos-Nagy (Suzanne C. Nagy) is a Hungarian-American environmental artist and curator who lives and works in New York City. Her work has been widely exhibited internationally, including The National Museum in Poznan, Ludwig Museum Budapest, Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, Palazzo Guicciardini Bongianni, Art Avenue, New York University, and other institutions.

Early life and education

Born in Hungary to a Hungarian father, Dr. Csikós Nagy Béla, a professor and was State Secretary of the Institute of Price and Material and to a Swiss mother, Suzanne spent her childhood in Budapest.

Suzanne started exploring art in Hungary. She moved to the United States in 1978.

She has a degree in Economics and received a diploma for film writing and producing in 1977. She also studied art at the Art Students League of New York between 1980-1982.

Career

Suzanne worked as a movie producer until 1986. She worked with talents such as George Clooney, Louis Fletcher, Charlie Sheen and Laura Dern. She produced Grizzly II: The Predator (also known as Grizzly II: The Concert) in 1983. The movie was never released in theaters.[1] She gained full control over the movie in 1988 and is currently working on it. The movie will be distributed in early 2019.

Suzanne C. Nagy is president of Gallery Les Looms and Art Haz Gallery, curating fine art and works on paper between 16th-20th century. She is also managing her online auction house which is in Manhattan New York.

Today, Nagy is internationally acclaimed as one of the first artists who questioned how unchecked pollution threatens our water, soil, and air quality. Her works mixes traditional art and technology. They stand as poetic contemplations about the environmental consequences of the industry.

Works

Transparentism

Suzanne C. Nagy invented Transparentism in 2004. In her work she uses a method of creating 3-D, transparent, photographic sculptures to visualize the depth and meaning of pollution. She made the non-seeable seeable for the human eye. She exhibited her works all over the United States and Europe.

Transparentism is a product of our digital and technological age. Artists now have immense possibilities to experience new ways of creating art. One of her signature work is LED lightboxes and LED light panels.[2]

After documenting the cause of pollution, she started to work on the solution of sustainability.

In 2013, she started to create large-scale 3D light panels, under the series “Sustainable Nature Solutions"[3]

Sustainable Nature Solutions Series

A creative breakthrough happened in 2008 when Nagy’s work started addressing how we should respond to pollution. This was the beginning of Sustainable Nature Solutions. Her paintings and multimedia works provoked the viewer to question their silent complicity as the consumer of industry. But more importantly, Nagy’s work suggested solutions to environmental pollution that were personal, scaled to the individual, and not the politician or state.

“My aim is to highlight the most alarming man-made ecological problems we are facing now and in the future. Art can be a powerful tool and can change social behavior, and with that comes hope.”

  1. Sustainable Nature. Searching for solution of global warming, she promotes planting trees what we lost throughout the last 100-150 years of industrialization and population growth.
  2. Sustainable Nature Solutions II – EXTINCT / REFORESTATION. This exhibition focuses on reforestation as she promotes that the world needs to engage to maintain life on our planet.
  3. Sustainable Nature Solutions III – PULSE. This 3rd series entitled “Pulse” focuses on the the life of the trees. During the daytime the trees convert the carbon dioxide into oxygen. She showed acrylic paintings, photographs, light panels and 3-D light boxes. The message was built on the Million Tree Initiative. Suzanne also volunteered to take care of a tree in the village where she lives.
  4. Sustainable Nature Solutions IVVANISHED. As with the previous series, Nagy mixes traditional art and technology. Vanished also marks a further exploration of mediums wood and rubber.
  5. Sustainable Nature Solutions V - BREEZE. This is the latest of the series entitled “Breeze”. The collection was taken by Art Avenue Gallery in Sarasota and Art Avenue in National Harbor.

Her work concentrates on exposing global issues that challenge serious aspects of mankind’s psyche, as well as questioning our moral integrity.
