Swami Satchidananda born Ananthasivan ( 1919- 2008) was an Indian saint, philosopher, philanthropist, pilgrim. He was one of the masters of the Anandashram , in Kanhangad, in northern Kerala, India after Swami Ramdas and Mataji Krishnabai[1].

EARLY LIFE

In his poorvashram or early life , he was Ananthasivan, son of M.A. Krishna Pattar . Krishna Pattar was himself a staunch devotee of Goddess Raja Rajeswari. The constant chanting of the name of the Goddess shows that he also was drawn towards the manifestation to free himself from the worldly cobwebs. The son Ananthasivan , it appears took over the divine command from the father and completed it as an example of spiritual succession.

Anathasivan was born in the year 1919 and had his education at Melarcode and at Nenmara, a small town which was then within the erstwhile Cochin state. After his education, his search for a job landed him in the Indian Army during the Second World war. On discharge from the army, he returned and spent short periods at Melarkode, Wayanad and Hyderabad . It appears that he was being irresistibly drawn towards spiritualism during these days as was evident from his behaviour with his kith and kin and his outlook.

He was in contact with Swami Ramdas and Mathaji at Kanhangad, seeking their guidance. In 1946, he left for Rishikesh, where he spent a couple of years as a true Sadhaka ( Aspirant) preparatory to the final plunge into the monastic life. His contact with Swami Shivanandaji at Rishikesh , added further impetus to the plan . However, he returned to Anandashram, Kanhangad at the behest of Swami Ramdas in the year 1949.

SANYAAS

In 1950, Swami Ramdas himself initiated him by giving the ochre-robe and the name “Swami Satchidananda " . By then, Swamiji and Mathaji had found in him the right type of a disciple , deserving of their full guidance on the road to Realisation. Swami Satchidanada fully reciprocated by conducting himself in a manner befitting the love, trust and confidence placed on him by his Guru. He earned the blessings of these two Illuminated souls by his devotion to them and dedication to the duties assigned to him. In the process he became a part of Swamy Ramdas and Mathaji learning the remaining lessons of spiritualism , assisting them in the management of the Anandashram and its multifaceted activities and accompanying them on their travels within India and abroad.

After the Samadhi of Swami Ramdas in 1963 , Mataji Krishnabhai guided the affairs of the Ashram. She carried on with all the activities in perfection till she attained Mahasamadhi in 1989. After she attained her mortal coil , Swami Satchidananda inherited the mantle of running the ashram. Physically well or ill, he carried on his duties which Providence has placed on him with the same meticulousness and momentum, as it was during the days of Swami Ramdas and Mataji. Neither the advancing age nor the ever increasing workload could deflect him.[2] He attained Samadhi in 2008. Presently the ashram is managed under the able guidance of Swami Muktananda.
