Notable customers include NZ Police[1] and NZ Transport Agency[2]. HistorySyl Limited was founded in 2008, based on research into semantic analysis of natural language by Peter de Vocht and a three-and-a-half year development programme partly co-funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Science and Innovation[3]. The Syl Search enterprise search platform uses patented technology for semantic search to differentiate the meaning of words based on their use, and language customisation and weightings to suit the organisation or industry. Between November 2012 and December 2013 Syl Limited obtained additional expansion funding from Enterprise Angels to increase market share in the New Zealand and Australian markets with further plans to expand into the US market[4][5]. Implementation partnerships since that time have included Datacom, Fronde, Team Asparona and Team Informatics. In late 2018, Syl Search version 3 was released with a new user interface and additional features. The Syl platform indexes corporate data sources including network File shares, Atlassian Confluence, IBM Lotus Notes, LDAP, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Office 365, OpenText Documentum, Oracle Web Center Content, SilverStripe, Twitter, ODBC and JDBC data sources, XML and JSON files, G Suite, Dropbox, websites, etc. A search API is also available for integrating search results into other platforms.
