Symphony No. 3 in F minor, subtitled "The Irish", was the third symphony composed by Charles Villiers Stanford. It was written in 1887.

Scoring and structure

The symphony is scored for 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets in B-flat, 2 bassoons, 4 horns in F, 2 trumpets in F, 2 trombones, bass trombone, timpani and strings.

The symphony is structured in four movements:

  1. Allegro moderato
  2. Allegro molto vivace (D minor)
  3. Andante con moto (B-flat major)
  4. Allegro moderato, ma con fuoco
