TAXIBOX

TAXIBOX PTY LTD is an Australian Mobile and Local Self storage company, that "delivers storage containers, or Taxiboxes, directly to customers and returns them to the company's warehouse(s)"[1] in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. TAXIBOX has 5 Mobile Self-Storage facilities, across the 3 cities, as well as a local storage facility in Mordialloc, Melbourne, for boat, furniture, car, caravan and business storage options to customers in the local area.

The storage unit design is based upon the traditional Taxicabs of New York City, predominantly "bright-yellow covers that feature black-and-white checkered striping."[2]

They previously sponsored a single race at Doomben Racecourse, Brisbane, The Taxibox Brc Sprint (1350m).[3]

History

The business was founded by Ben Cohn and Jeremy Rosen in 2010.[1] The pair using almost $1 million in equity from their own savings, to get Taxibox up and running.[4] With the idea coming from similar services offered in America,[5] Taxibox began operations in Melbourne, with Cohn and Rosen delivering the storage unites themselves at the start, before expanding to Sydney and then Brisbane.

Since 2013, TAXIBOX has also transferred their storage units interstate, for customers relocating between Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.[6]

In 2018, they opened a local self-storage facility in Mordialloc, Melbourne to provide traditional storage services to customers in the nearby area.[7]

The TAXIBOX

Built from a breathable composite, a TAXIBOX is 2.4m long, 1.5m wide and 2.2m tall.[8] Depending on the amount of storage space required, customers will order multiple Taxiboxes to their desired location, before choosing for them to remain at that location or be transported to a local Taxibox warehouse.[9]

Charity Work

Red Nose Day - During the month of June, TAXIBOX supports Red Nose by offering money off a customer's storage costs and a donation to Red Nose Day, in exchange for the customer helping to raise awareness for the charity.[10] Upon delivery of their TAXIBOX, the customer takes a picture of themselves wearing a Red Nose, next to their storage unit. Once the photo has been uploaded to either Facebook or Instagram, the donation is made.

Kids Under Cover - In December 2017, TAXIBOX supported Kids Under Cover's 'Donate Your Car' program, by raising awareness to their customers during the month.[11]Oz Harvest - As part of the "Getting in the Spirit of Christmas" initiative,[12] TAXIBOX raised funds equivalent to 860 meals. This money was donated to OzHarvest Food Rescue.[13]The Nappy Collective - TAXIBOX storage units have been donated to The Nappy Collective on an annual basis, allowing them to store the nappy donations they receive.[14]
