Taylor Chung (born 26 July, 1991), known professionally as Wenzday, is an American electronic dance music DJ, producer, and singer. She is the co-founder of Los Angeles based collective, record label and clothing company 40oz Cult.

Early Life

Chung grew up in Northern California but moved to Los Angeles in 2009. She is classical trained in vocal performance and performed in musical theatre and church choir from the age of 6. She graduated from Cal State University Northridge with a BS in Recreation Tourism Management and went on to graduate from Icon Collective music production school. She decided to become a DJ after seeing DJ AM perform in the Bay Area and was mentored by Los Angeles DJ Jill Janus aka Penelope Tuesdae, former lead singer of the metal band, Huntress^[1]. Chung’s first professional DJ gig was at the Playboy Mansion in 2007 and she is the youngest person to have ever played the legendary venue.

Musical Style

Chung produces bass house, deep house, and dubstep. She uses Ableton as her primary digital audio workstation.

Carrer

2009 - 2013

Chung worked as an open format DJ (under the name DJ Wednesday) in Los Angeles with residencies at LA hotspots such as Les Deux, Hyde, Greystone Manor, AV, and DBA.

2014 - 2016

After enrolling at Icon Collective, Chung stopped DJing open format to focus all her efforts on her revamped solo project WENZDAY. Her first release was with San Francisco based label POPGANG. She then started working alongside her brother Tanner Chung (Dack Janiels) and close friend Erik Hamamoto (Hami) with the formation of label and clothing brand 40oz Cult.^[2] She subsequently released her singles “Riot” and “West Coast Style” on 40oz Cult.

2017

Chung released a remix with her brother Dack Janiels for Rain Man’s Habit on Dim Mak Records. She released her debut EP “RUN” on her label 40oz Cult as well as a release on dubstep artist Figure’s label Doom Records called “Homicide” and released “The Gift” with drum and bass artist Reid Speed on her label Play Me Records ^[3]. She started her weekly radio show “Everyday is Wenzday” on Dash Radio’s DASHX which features weekly mixes from herself as well as interviews and guest mixes from her peers.^[4]

2018

Taylo Chung played many solo shows in 2018 including Beyond Wonderland on the Space Yacht Art Car, Coachella at the KROQ stage, and EDC on the Wa$ted art^[5], and Lost Lands(10). She  released two singles,“Narita” and “Jungle Demon” on French house label Gold Digger Records(11/12). She also released a remix for Mark the Beast’s “Covered in Roses” on Flux Pavilion and Doctor P’s label CIrcus Records.^[6] She was also a guest DJ for the launch party of Bella Thorne’s Filthy Fangs Label during Coachella.^[7]
